I rode mcdogs with the hand warmers. Awesome in cold weather while just riding, BUT if the motor stalled for whatever reason and the water sat in the cylinders for a few seconds, it was blistering hot after start up. Other than that, awesome.

i used oneil 5mm dive boots and 3mm dive gloves and we could ride a few tanks before getting cold. i also double up on wet suits. a 3/2 under and a 5 over with pull over top.
we have rode dead of winter with snow on the ground like this and prefer it over any hand warmers. what i need is a head warmer lol a helmet helps a lot, but once all this hair gets wet
its hard for me stay warm.

yeah no problem, its not as restrictive as it sounds. friend bout a full 7mm cold water dive suit and you could barely move in that thing.

What are you calling warm gloves and boots?

I wear 3mm quicksilver gloves. With quicksilver 7mm boots. Feet and hands warm ALL day long. But i know some of you guys up in the central north see some crazy cold weather. I can't speak for that conditions but if the gloves an boots don't keep you warm the pisser's on your hand mod's SURE won't either lol.

We ride till air is 30's, water upper upper 30's and with 3mm gloves hands still won't be cold. But any thicker glove your not gonna hang on to the bars.

Also keep in mind the KEY to riding in cold weather is having the right equipment. It's expensive yes but i don't put a price on being warm and comfy while enjoying barrel rolls in February. Get a good suit like a $350 and up Oneill Muntant with hood 5/4mm it's good for water in the upper 30's. Any cooler i'd say switch to a dry suit but your looking at $800 plus for the kind that wont rip/tear when you fall.

I mean all in all if you wanna play in deadly conditions just pay the price to do it right lol.

Hand warms are a "Wet" mod meaning they work best in temperatures that are survivable while your wearing a wetsuit. The optimum temp range for hand warmers is when the water temp your riding in is between 40-60 degrees. If your riding in colder than 40 degree water hand warmers probably aren't your best option. I'm not saying they wont work, just that some sort of Dry set up would be better. In water temps warmer than 60 they obviously aren't needed (unless your a wussy like me LOL!) My ski dumps some pretty hot water overboard so I HAVE TO wear gloves any time my hand warmers are hooked up. They advantage of running your hand warmers and wearing gloves at the same time is that you can wear a thinner glove, like regular Jet Pilot or water ski gloves. Thick wetsuit gloves give me major arm pump

OVERKILL & OVERKILL,

Just wear your normal winter gear and adjust your overboard pissers with restrictors and dump the hand and body warmers where you think they should spray. Last thing many people want to do is clean up extra gear, another wetsuit, and buy a dry suite.

Riding in high 30* & mid to low 40* air and water temps? Someone is looking to get Penumonia. Not doubting it, maybe you colder climate Northern folks can take the cold better than the people in the South. I mean dosent everyone have a winter hobby also?

The problem with using pissers as hand warmers won't do anything when you end up swimming in the water or of the ski breaks down. I think you are under estimating how warm a good wetsuit and good wetsuit style gloves and boots keep you. You can literally swim in 40 degree water and not be cold. I sweat inside mine while riding in high 40 degree water. If you wore one in 65+ degree water you would probably be risking heat stroke while riding.

l like my hand warmer's and plan on putting something on my feet soon too.

Really cannot say anything negative about them, they work great. Now if l can just figure out how to get water on my bald fuggin head!

i found it best to tap the center of bars and feed the water into them. i drill few small holes in front top of grips to let water out onto hands and one hole aimed to spray throttle finger/lever. my buddy has the same but just has ends of bars open for water to flow out. the heat makes its way into grips, just not as well. i also have a small sprayer that sprays out from middle of bars to warm the gut..pic of how its plumbed on our freaks.. also have a 1/4 turn plastic valve under chin pad to turn it on or off while riding.

Man you got that right. I can say I fall off my ski quite often at times. Going from being warm straight to cold water can be a little shocking.
I have seen in person, but never worn a 7 mill wet suit. I have only worn a 2/3mm (I own two) and A 4/5mm once while diving.
I also have a 2/3mm (cant remember how thick) wetsuit hood I own and wear during cold weather.
I remember the winter of 2010 at Daytona along with the Lone Star Freeride and both rides were in the 40's low 50's. Even with my slippery john with the hand and body warmers spraying on me, the water is still cold when I fall off my ski. Time for a winter hobby, a 650 SUMO.

I don't believe you get pneumonia from being cold. I think it has to do with bacterial infections. :clown:

I have used a drysuit and it is great at keeping you dry. Keeping warm is achieved by the clothes you wear under the drysuit.
That said, I preferred a good wetsuit, personally. Cold tolerance is very individual. I was able to go out in 25-35 deg air and 35 deg water temps with a Ripcurl F-Bomb suit, 4mm core, 3mm extremities. It actually kept my core dry most of the time. Taped seams and good neck, wrist, and ankle seals are important in wetsuits.
On top of that, I wore 3mm neoprene socks, wrestling shoes, and an old JP tour coat.

But: riding in those conditions, even with a warm suit, still sucks IMHO.

PS: I cannot stand gloves, so I never wore them. No problem with good handlebar sprayers.

Your a rocket scientist and a doctor! :booty:

I just bought a new full wetsuit for cold weather, its awesome!

The big question is, shorts over wetsuit or no shorts, wetsuit only????

I have a stock SJ. Installed hand warmers using 3/8 tubing and didn't block off the pisser. I was worried that I would restrict cooling to the engine. I didn't get any water going up the hand pole. Im going to add a valve so I can control the restriction on the pisser line so that I actually get flow up the pole. Just thought I would share so that no one does the same thing as me and heads out to a nearly frozen lake to test them out....without bringing along any tools, zip ties, or anything else that could have helped lol.
