Other Harbor Freight Compression Tester ( Crap ) ?

I just get rent one for free from the Oreilly's auto when I need one. Mine is MIA in my garage at the time.

Think I may get the Craftsman one for Christmas though.

I couldn't find my flywheel puller the one time, so I bought one from Harbor Freight to get the job done quick. I broke the main cast piece with just my 1/2" ratchet. I have never seen anything at Harbor Freight that is also sold by Snap On. I am curious to know what items those would be.

I recommend Pittsburgh tools for an on the go toolset as things happen and they are decent tools. When I worked in a garage though, I definitely went through several of those ratchets a year where Craftsman would last much longer and Snap On for even more time.

It's hard to have any brand loyalty these days where Stanley has been low end for a long while now; Craftsman started doing that junk evolv line in China and now has dropped even further in quality when they started outsourcing the actual Craftsman tools. Snap On is ridiculously expensive, especially for a DIY mechanic and some of their stuff is rebrands of cheaper things.

You definitely have to know what you are looking at and what it is worth to you for how much you are going to use a tool.

I used to keep a crappy compression for buying skis. It always read about 20psi low, so when you buy a ski it looks like it has crappy compression and then the owner would come down on his price. It worked well for a while until I lost the tester.

The schrader valve is the wear item in a compression gauge. Just check the gauge against your air compressor and change the valve every couple of years. Even expensive gauges need to be resealed for consistent readings. If the extension is used between the hose and head it will read low.

Just my opinion and I'm sure you dont care what I think but the words I would use to describe how sorry that is would get me banned. Pretty low on the moral totem pole.

I learned that from a fellow rider, seemed like a good idea at the time. I guess now that I think about it, it's kinda a d bag move. It really didn't save me that much anyway. Just figured I'd give you a use for all of the crappy testers out there. My bad guys, my bad.

Well snap on sells tons of OTC stuff. And like I said. The flywheel puller my buddy got at hf for 20 bucks I think?? Is identical to the OTC puller I have minus mine has a plastic case. It was 189 dollars.

If you broke harbor freight puller, you did something wrong. Not uncommon for people to use pullers incorrectly. My OTC ne has been around for 5+ yeas, and pulled superjet flywheels probably 500 times.

I'm not trying to argue over the internet. If you educate yourselves on snap on and Matco you will learn for yourself. They do make superior products for the most part, but that doesn't mean 90 percent of the mechanics on here, or even at your deals hip, need that quality or precision.

ive just always been that way, if i buy something like tools. its going to be top of the line :):):):) and have a warranty. like i said before, when you spend that kind of money with them, they warranty stuff that doesnt have to be replaced. had a matco drill with a recall, JUST bought it. $500, and took 3 months to get it back, after a month he gave me a new one and sold mine when it came back as used. harbor freight aint doing that for you

I was a professional mechanic for several years and still hold certifications. I am fully capable of using a puller properly and broke it in half using one hand to hold the motor and the other on the ratchet. No doubt that it was junk, you could see large air bubbles in the casting. Looks do not make a product identical, nor does even coming from the same manufacturer. If I were to go off you saying that you have pulled superjet flywheels 500 times with your OTC and I broke my HF on one 657x flywheel, I would have to say that they are not the same. I have however pulled a couple hundred different flywheels and balancers ranging from jet skis to dump trucks with a few other name brand pullers and never had so much as a messed up thread.

I wasted the better part of a day on that flywheel and would like for others to be able to avoid that mistake. Luckily I had a coupon for a free screwdriver set that they told me to keep as a gift. I don't remember which one it was exactly as I am not fully educated on Harbor Freights line up and I only had it for less than a day.
