Hauling my jetski on my pontoon boat ideas

Swap meet that's what I'm in the process of doing. Have the crane. How much reinforcement did you do for the base of the crane? I was debating a plate on top and bottom to disperse the weight a little.

Oh lord yeah man, i'd reinforce the crap out of it. You're talking about hanging 350lbs out on the end of a crane. Lots of torsional force applied to the deck. Cause if the deck lets go, your crane could come down on the ski. Make unwanted holes. No bueno.

Lol unwanted holes. I was hoping that was your "build". Have access to about as much a stainless steel sheets as I want. It's just how large of sheets I should use.

Nah, I don't own a boat. Yet.
I would use something thick. Nothing thinner than 3/16's.
You might even consider having a cable that you could hook to something structural on the boat to support the top section of the crane.
I don't know what you're hoisting, but whatever it is, its gonna probably be 50lbs heavier than you expect when pulling it straight out of the water.

Just be careful.

Funny, this thought just popped into my head and I found your thread right away. Ramps off the front with the ski in between the front seats seems like the easiest to me but I'd love to be able to hang it off the side to free up deck space. Definitely in for everybody else's suggestions!

I'm looking to do the same. I am thinking of doing something like a hitch hauler that just stays on the front. Maybe some type of sliding rails like those old pics with the pickup truck. This way I can bring the ski and don't have to take up deck space on the boat.

I gave up on the idea. I finally talked my wife into a "ski" boat so we will be listing the pontoon for sale soon. Can't wait to wakeboard again.

I have done this on two pontoon boats now and been meaning to do a build thread on it. The boat is still covered up so you will have to make due with what photos I have for the moment. I brainstormed this for a long time and I couldn't think of a better way to do it if you want access to your ski when your boat isn't in the water.

I leave my ski on the boat all the time now and just lock it to the boat. When i want to just take the ski out I swing it out over my double trailer and drop it and off I go. I have 3 gas cans mounted to the back deck and a tool chest I keep on-board as well.

Couldn't be happier with how it works and how the boat rides.

Only thing I plan to change this year is to replace the tie-downs i use with cut to length straps.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Love the setup citizen. One thing I'd recommend is investing in a pwc lift sling. If those strap hooks slip the ski is going down hard.

I've never had luck running our stand ups (2; 1 on front and other between seats) in the front of my parents pontoon. Too much weight up front and navigating inshore waters have taken wakes equivalent to 6" of water running down the deck.

If you look closely at the first pic you can see i have conduit straps mounted on the inside of my rails at the balance points on my ski. So the hooks go into the slots and can't slide. I looked into the slings but the straps are way too long for a standup from what i could see and I would run out of cranking room on my crane to get the ski onto the deck. I plan to make some cut to length straps with hooks to use in future.

My first pontoon boat was older and had a lot less flotation than the newer pontoons. I would put my RN in the center of the boat more or less and it would still cause the nose of the boat to dip in medium to heavy chop and we would get water on board.

This new boat is 100x better. Obviously my current ski is a lot lighter, but there is no way my old boat could have had that much weight on the front without having issues. New boat rides and planes out great with the ski up there.
