300/440/550 Have motor. Need suggestions?

Alright, I've pulled the 650 from the "Sea Cruiser", and I'm looking to put it into a stand up hull. What would be the best hull for me to put this engine into without major modifications? I also don't want to spend tons of money on a hull. It will be a project that I will be working on for some time however. Also, the "Sea Cruiser" hull with pump is for sale. Needs a new nozzle, and obviously an engine and some TLC. Make me offers if interested. By the way if no one knows about the "Sea Cruiser" it is the side-by-side that Kawasaki built. One more thing. If anyone has a hull that would be a good candidate for this motor please let me know. Motor is stock by the way.

I don't want to burst your bubble but a stock 650 is not that great of a motor. You could put it into a 550 w/o much work. You might be better off putting just a little clean up work into the SC and then selling it w/ the motor and then take the money from that and use it to buy a standup.

sell the sc complete or part it out
take the $$$ and buy a squarenose (1990 - 1995 superjet)

i agree. sell that ski complete for as much as can get. than buy a cheap squarenose with a 701 motor. it will save you a lot of work and will be worth it in the long run because those 650's are dogs.

I thought I might see replies like these. From reading the forums I had noticed that there never is much talk about the 650s so I was wondering if there was something about them that wasn't very appealing. How much would you guys say the SC is worth in average condition, hull wise, but was running pretty good? I was kind of wanting to stick with Kawasaki so don't know that I'd want to get the SJ. I don't have a lot of spare money right now either. Would a 750sxi in decent condition be out of the question with the money I got from the SC?

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A CHEAP SJ WITH A 701.

Put that 650 into a JS550 hull. I've got mine doing 0-50 in the time it takes you to say "holy ****". That is far from being a "DOG".

Typically the stock answer here will be, get a superjunk,is it the right answer for you, that depends on a number of things,if you really want a squirrely ass ski I say get one,if you want something stable and easy to ride the superjunk ain't it by a long shot.

I live in northern middle TN. About 30 miles north of Nashville. I'm guessing the hull you have would look just like yours you have in the picture except for color/graphics of course? How much are you wanting for it? Like I said my funds are very limited at the time, but if I can part out the SC or sell it as whole w/out motor that would give me some extra cash to put into the motor. I definitely do want to mod. the motor before it goes in as the funds come availabe. Is that your e36 in the driveway, too?

You will not get any money out of the SC w/o the motor in it. How 'tight' are funds? How much will you have to add to the ski fund once you sell the SC?

Sure as h*ll is"nt the 550 path

You can pick up a superjet square nose for 1000-1500 and way less hassle then putting the kawi motor in something and then you can grow from there .
With the 650 theres no where to go

Well, since the funds are tight I was wanting to just go with swapping the motor in another hull as it is something I can do over time. I won't have to have the larger lump sum of money from the get go. Kind of like a project ski I guess you could say. I'm not necessarily looking to be able to just sell the SC, and immediately turn around and buy something that is ready for the water if you know what I mean. So, basically. Can someone tell me, with no biased opinions, can the 650 be a good motor with some work, and would a 650SX be a fairly good, stable hull to work with?

There are a lot of people that started on a SX/JS hull. They are almost all riding superjets now. If you can scrape up a couple hundred dollars to go with the proceeds of the SC sale you should be able to get a superjet, and you will be MUCH happier with it. Do you know anyone that has a Superjet you can ride? What about a JS/SX? If you do try them both and see the difference between the two.

I honestly don't know anyone at all that owns any type of jet ski at all. What is it that makes the Superjet such a better ski? I could handle a couple hundred bucks or so to go along with the sale of the SC. Of course, I guess that mostly depends on how much I'd get out of it with the trailer. What do you guys think it would be worth w/trailer once I got it running good, and operational again?

it depends on how good of a salesperson you and how stupid of a buyer you can find.

Welcome to the X. We have a regular group that rides in Nashville almost every Sunday. One of the group is a factory trained ski mechanic that owns his own small business. He does not post much, but is a great guy and can steer you in the right direction and help you find parts and maybe a good running used ski. There were a couple of older SJs for sale on craigs list in the Nashville area a couple of months ago, but not sure if they are still there. PM me and I will give you some contact info and we can get you started and in the right direction without going broke. We will have you on the water in no time if you are serious about getting a boat together.

Operator, I have an older kawasaki 550 hull sitting here in the yard that I would like someone to get some good use out of. I am in Western NC, near asheville. This hull was used at one time as a racing boat. You can tell by the setup of the hull. PM me if you are interested and we can work something out. I promise, you will get a good deal on this one.

There are a lot of people that started on a SX/JS hull. They are almost all riding superjets now.

This statement is absolutely false. As in "untrue". As in 'Has no factual basis".

The thing about X-H20 is the constant trashing of the JS skis, and the ever-present "get a SJ" cries. It's almost as bad as those Harley people.

I do agree with trying to find someone close who will let you try both types.

And as to the comment "no where to go with a 650": I started with a stock 650 - nice upgrade from the 550. Then I started the same route as everybody else - carb, pipe, prop, manifolds, head, etc. If I run out of room, I can always go to a 750 (or 800) engine, and start over. I have had this ski for three years, and every season it has been fun and challenging.

I am still not at the price tag of a dog-slow 650 SJ. (minus paint and bling)
