Have to prime carb to keep running???

all the lines and filter are new. the fuel pump seems to be working since the new lines were dry cranking the engine sucked fuel up to the carb. continuing to crank will send fuel down the return line to the tank. i double checked the hook ups they are hooked up correctly. am i wrong to think it wouldnt be the lines or the pump? id have to think it was the carb. if it is the carb i would be lost to trouble shoot that.

So you have not done anything to these carbs and they used to run fine?

Make double sure that you have the fuel in line connected to the bottom nipple and the return line to the top nipple.

You may have clogged internal filters or a stuck needle.

no i havent done anything to the carb. didnt touch it and it worked fine last season. ill double check the lines like you said. some kind of clog is what i suspected in the carb too. not knowing how they work can you have a clog but still have fuel go in and come out the return line?

Yes, absolutely.

If I were in your shoes, I would try cranking it a bit more to see if it won't stay running after a while

no luck. once i got it running, using the gas being shot in the carb from me priming it i have to push the primer ball in and give it another squirt ever other second. if i dont give it another hit it dies quick. doesnt bog down or try to stay running. basically its not getting ANY gas. should i rip into the carb. really dont want to cause i have never opened one up and clearly wouldnt really know what i was doing or how to even put it back together?

Sounds like you need to take the carbs off the motor and tear them down.
It's not that difficult.

well matt you know darn well what this is and you have only said it once.

Stuck needle duh even I know that.

thanks for fixing mine what three times now.

alright i think ill be ripping into the carb. can you guys hook me up with a couple thread links to help me understand what the hell ill be looking for. luckily its a single carb.

switched out the plugs with new 7's and same issue.

remove cover #36 and diaphragm 35. Tug on needle valve (part of #32), if gummed up squirt with penetrating oil or WD40. There are 2 jets underneath of #29 r, remove with good phillips driver -don't strip!- then unscrew and clean the larger one of the two (brass) jets (the lower one). Additionally you might also take the other side of the carb apart to clean out the small nylon "sock" filter which lets the fuel go to #32. -all this is easy if the screws are not stuck from corrosion.

Also inspect the diaphragm, make sure there are no holes in it. You don't need a carb kit, the gaskets are reusable. There is a jetski shop (Pro Power ski?) just a few miles NW of you, they could help if needed.

heres a dousey.....once I had a issue with a big green fly getting into my tank, one of them sucked up inside the fuel line and was stuck at the beginning of the fuel filter inlet, the ski would start for a sec put once it started,it would shut off right away once the vac built up on the fuel pump and sucked the flys azz onto the barb hard, would have taken much longer to find it if I were not running semi clear fuel line at least to the filter.

I OWE YOU A CASE OF BEER OR TWO. you were dead on. opened it up and was trying to figure out how to pull on the needle when all the sudden it popped. It was stuck in there. cleaned and lubed it up a little, put it back together and it fired right up. runs great now.
