Helmets.

Usually, altering the surface/ structure of a helmet is a no no. Hence the reason for them stating if you drop, or crash the helmet, replace it.
My sponsors won't let me ride a helmet that has surface scratches, let alone a crashed one. Forget about drilling holes....

It's your dome piece, and your life. Compromise the integrity of you brain bucket at your own risk.

I have spent some time wearing the TLD Stage Helmet...

I measure at the bigger side of Large according to their sizing chart.

When fitting the helmet dry, I used the large insert for the helmet cushion that connects to the MIPS system, 15mm cheek and neck cushions. This was the best fit when the hemet was dry.

When the hemet got wet, it did not feel any heavier. However, it did loosen up on me. I swapped back to the medium insert, 35mm neck and cheek pads... too tight...

I found the perfect fit when the helmet is wet is with the Medium padding on the MIPS, 15mm neck pad and 25mm cheek pads. Its a tight fit when the helmet is dry but gives a couple mm when wet and fits really nice and very comfortable wet.

It does not restrict periphial vision at all and moves very little in wipeouts.

The MIPS is pretty neat. It allows the helmet to shift around a little. I did find that when I first used the helmet and it was a bit too loose, I pulled one of the elastic hooks from the cage that the padding attaches to. I was constantly readjusting the helmet when it was too loose (lots of wiping out) but once I got the fit right, there has been very little readjusting after wipeouts.

This is my first helmet for any watersport so, I do not have anything to compare to... but I am very satisfied with the helmet.

Fox Rampage Carbon Fiber helmet MIPS, DOT approved
If you lucky you can get these for $200. There are some new ones for $269 on ebay.
Made a huge difference, during landings after big tricks, as its lighter and has a lot of vents, seems much easier on your neck.
All inserts and etc are made of stainless steel or plastic, so they will not rust like many others.

Cascade Whitewater Kayaking helmet. Light, drains immediately, and...………………………….it's actually made for water...what an idea!! Plus the cage helps fend off medical and dental bills, and my deductible is too high to wear an open face helmet. Do the chicks dig it? No, So I just buy them extra shots of Jose to get over themselves.helmet.jpg

grabbed one of those cheap bells off blowsion for like 70$. feels safe enough for my skill(lack of) level but i can see myself wanting to drop more on a better one in a year or two. didn’t quite have the coin to ball out in something nice after buying the ski and didn’t wanna be out there with nothing. it’s nice and light though, almost forget it’s even on my head half the time.

How is water retention by the interior foam? Easy to live with or annoying?

And any tips for sizing? Fits tight or fits loose using their size chart? Does foam compress with use such that one should get the next smaller shell size?

I found these for sale for 129. Rode with it for the first time this weekend and already broke the plastic piece in the back that fits to your head. Have you had any issues with this?
