650/X-2 Help! Friend rode, and sunk my X2, now it won't start!

Long story short, let a friend try out my 750 X2 last weekend. Well apparently he should stick to riding couches cause he pretty much sunk my ski. I got it out and drained all the water, pulled the plugs and cycled the motor til no more water was coming out. Sprayed some fresh gas down in the cylinders, installed new plugs and tried to crank it up. It'll idle for a few seconds then cut off. If I keep pouring fuel in the carb with the primer it'll maintain a rough idle but thats about it. If I rev it at all it will rev up then just shut off like its being flooded or something. Any help would be appreciated. I'm lost.

Drain the gas tank and fuel lines. Sounds like you keep putting water back in from the gas tank. Water is heavy and will be at the bottom of the tank where the pick ups are. Do not try to save the gas to reuse.

You'd have to have a lot of water in the tank for it to pull water into the lines from the primary line while stationary on the trailer. If that were the case, you'd be able to see that very easy by looking into the tank. Take the pickup line out and look down, water is obvious. I don't think water in the fuel is your problem.

Check the compression, and look into the plug holes with a light, make sure there is no damage.

You need to flip the ski up-side-down and turn the motor over while it is up side down. Have both plugs out and alternate a finger over each plug hole. The kawi motor likes to hold water in the crank case, and severe ingestion will only be corrected by draining the case, ie. flip it over.

The crank case holds an incredible amount of water after sinking. What is probably happening is when the ski revs up, water sprays into the cylinder, and eventually fouls the plugs with water. If you start it over and over, you'll eventually get all the water out. Its easier to turn it upside down, or use the crankcase drain if you still have one (hopefully you got rid of it already).

DO NOT LET WATER SIT IN YOUR CRANKCASE. GET IT OUT GET IT OUT GET IT OUT! It will ruin your crank.

Every time I sank my x2 I got enough water in the fuel to prevent it from running. Drain the tank first, prime the carbs and go ride it.

if all that does not work it could be water forming a conection on your kill switch wires. I wan mine in the salt and had bare conectores and my wire plugs got water in them and it would not have enought power to trip the stop switch until it reved it up then it would die. just thinking it could be a wet connection. if its not the water in the gas. but if you do sink it you should definetly drain it and get it running asap so you dont ruin you motor.

You can actually see water in a gas tank with a good flashlight or on a bright day. I have successfully siphoned out a small amount of water without dumping out the contents of an entire tank. lifting the nose of the ski a foot or so and tilting it on it's side makes it easy as the water will collect in the lowest corner of the tank.

Make sure you have a good fuel filter though. If water got in then other small debris could of as well.

Good Luck,

Not always the case, fuel sits on top of water. The fuel pickups go to the bottom of the tank. I had to drain my kart tank last weekend because after everything had settled after riding it sucked up water sitting on the trailer. I'd just do like vumad said, check the compression. Drain everything. Blow through the fuel lines. New plugs again and retry
