Help get an SXR modded - suggestions

OK,,if you plan to race closed course with a stock SXR but you have about 600 in cash on you now . What would you do in mods first.?

on a side note how do you short out temp sensor?

This is for my teammate Chris , he is running in beginner class . was thinking of picking up a

1. Ride plate
2. Intake Grate
3. Rear sponson

these are for sure what timing advance do you recommend . I also hear about shorting a temp sensor .. I am not that diversed in SXR's so feel free to speak down to me =p

yeah a lot of guys run that rear sponson, honestly that timing advance is easy, cheap and really wakes the motor up on the low end. definatly the plate and grate are a neccessity. My buddy went with R&D timing advance, and it worked out real nice. I heard there is a way to do the timing advance without spending a dime, but not sure how. We're running the R&D pro stealth plate also, and it sticks. im not sure about the temp sensor trick, ive heard of it too but dont know anything about it. Flame arrestors are nice too, but require re-jetting, which is easy but you gotta spend some dough. Id call R&D and see what they can do for you.

The Plate is more accurate. I have one if you need it.

As far as Plate and Grate.

TBM Grate is the best I found, I tried all of them except the latest R&D design. Skat is second.

Plate. Stock is hard to beat. But the TBM plate really worked best, It allowed you to carry more speed through corners and to track across wakes without the ski getting influenced by them, with a stock plate you can get some pitch and roll influence.

If you go limited, the TBM Plate becomes really hot coming into to corners, meaning it carrys alot of speed, when you drop the throttle, the ski does not slow down so you have to ride it more agressively. 2006 Nat Tour I took my stock SXR and a Limited SXR with the TBM plate, I raced my stocker half the time in limited because I was not use to how hot the ski went into the bouys.

I was looking into a R&D intake grate and a Worx ride plate that i found for cheap. Keep in mind we are trying to make the cash go along way .. whats your opinion.

The R&D grate made the tail loose on my SXR. Which worx plate are you talking about. There is the 750 SXR Pro plate that alot of people used, I tired one and it just did not work for me. I bought the first "SXR" specific plate and it just did not cut it. I gave it to a Pro Racer to try, he could find some good and bad things about it. I do not know about the latest Worx Plate.

Keep in mind, that everybody is different. I know plenty that liked the R&D Grate / Worx combo. Also plenty liked the full R&D setup.

D-ski is right on with the temp sensor. Its the green one if you were not sureYou should probably run higher octane gas with the timing advance. . If you are running stock breathers remove the rubber plugs on the end and you will get more air flow. Basically the same as if you purchased after-market flame arrestors and its FREE! You could also dry your stock pipe out with flow control valves or different water routing. This will help with low end. A nice scoop grate will help you stay hooked up in chop. I run the scat-trac stainless and it makes a huge difference compared to my friends stock. A different impeller will help your low end as well.

I have the Skat-Trak double grate with the stock shoe. The grate made a big difference in choppy water. I purchased the SS as I like the extra weight lower in the hull.
