Blaster Help identifying my new Yamaha Blaster

I'm picking up a new blaster that is supposed to be a 1999 Sold new in 2000?? I know that they weren't made that year so I wanted to see what you guys thought.. Either way I'm going to buy it but I'm wondering what exactly it is.. He supposedly bought it from a Yamaha factory rider and it has a lot of Riva upgrades. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Blaster 1's were made from 93-96 and 97/98 overseas.

Check the HIN [number]. The last two digits are the year of manufacture.

I'm going to pick up the ski tomorrow but supposedly the last two digits in the VIN are 99?? Weird

probably a shady owner, probably an SJ HIN. Take the HIN number and call a yamaha dealership. they can verify what exact ski it came off of.

You right it could have a different HIN number installed on it if it was stolen or something. I'll find out. The ski is in great shape and has lots of upgrades. If the HIN number checks out what would you pay for it? $1200 a decent deal?

if it runs, yeah. take a compression tester. pull the plugs do the test and turn the couplers with your hands and listen/feel for bearing roughness.

I'll check the compression and run it. Looks real clean and everything looks almost new..

1995 Yamaha changed the color to red.
1996 Yamaha added (2) 38 mm Mikuni carburetors and 62T cases to the WaveBlaster, resulting in slightly more power, from 63 to 73 hp. This model was discontinued in 1996.
1997 through 1998 Yamaha changed the color scheme to blue and white and renamed the machine to Waveblaster Limited ( not available in USA)

Depending on what parts it has, 1200 is a great price. Skis always seem cheaper in Colorado when I'm browsing Craigslist.

I would check to see if it was painted blue or it's gell.

If that is the case. I could see Yamaha providing some "OEM" hulls with HIN #'s for that year. You use to see some sponsored racers showing brand new out of the crate "OEM" hulls that were blanks, bare empty hulls. Though I would bet these hulls weighed a we bit less.
