it is a 1987.

look on the motor there should be a tag on the flywheel cover. if it says 538cc it is probably a 550. also that year the stock exhaust will say 550 jet power on the 550.

Pics would be helpful. Just cause it's an 87 means nothing, it could have a 300, 440, 550, 650, 750 or even 800 in it. It's 25 years old, the HIN tells us nothing other then the year.

87 550 had red topdeck and white bottom. 87 440 was all white. 87 650 was white with either red or blue handlepole. 87 300 was white and has one cylinder. Hope this helps.

there should be some cc numbers on the cylinders I believe to tell exactly what it is. But that doesnt look like any of my js550 engines. Mostly due to the exhaust. Maybe a newer sx engine?

that motor has the 440 exhaust on it and a 38mm carb (the 87 550 had a 44mm).

its possable the stuff got changed but it is most likely a 440.

take a pic of the prop and i can tell you for sure.

The only way to tell if it is truly a 550 or a 440 is to pull the head and take a measurement of the bore. The pump could be swapped out, the exhaust is definitely 440 style, and the small carb indicates 440 (in an 87 hull).

thanks guys for all your help, I guess I will have to remove the head and just measure the bore, I can take a picture of the prop for you guys too.
I really do appreciate your help guys, ugh I just want to be out on the water!
