I sunk a SJ a few years ago.. It went under in the push of the start button.. I wiped out, holding on with one hand, pulled my self back up on it, hit the start button and came up solid and instant nose dive down.. not sure what really happened.. I held on to the handle pole for dear life.. Wasn't my ski.. Luckily I was on a lake, but it is a 500ft deep lake.. We managed to drag it in and had it going again later that day.. I don't think it had the proper amount of foam in it either.. It was a heavily modified race ski.. It would be cool to have some sort of locating beacon for such tragedies, mainly for the surf.. I have seen my share of sunken ski's out there.. Always sucks.. Not sure how you could do it though, sorry... haha

A R/C circuit could be used for the electronic trigger. The values of the R/C circuit would determine the delay.

When water completes the circuit across the two probes discharges the capacitor. When volts across the capacitor goes below .75 volt the transistor’s collector goes to ground. When water leaves the probes the capacitor is charged.

note: I don't own a geeky calculator.

I was thinking about a hinged compartment maybe on the handlepole with a small red bouy inside. When the ski is sunk there could be a trigger that would open the compartment. Like a remote control that could be worn on your PFD, that way you wouldn't have to worry about CO2 or a water operated switch. I really don't have much knowledge in RC or electronics though. Just a random thought I had the other day.

My vote is for the 2 or 3 liter coke bottle where a frt toe hold would go with a rope wrapped around it and the other end anchored to the firewall via a eye bolt. I read that on the 1st page and I like it alot! Cheap, simple, fool proof. Have the bottle held in place with a battery strap-things go bad, unhook the strap and the bottle comes loose with the rope wrapped around the bottle so it would unwind as the ski goes down. (and now I would have a way to have SunDrop on board at all times.)LOL
