Help me with some simple ski de-winterizing

Hey,

So a few little things, to make sure I don't eff up my ski..this is the first aftermarket one I've had. I bought a gallon of gas and mixed 40:1 with 2stroke oil and put in tank. And I hooked up lithium battery (old lead battery is on charger) and tried starting it, but using a bit of gas as starting fluid didn't get it to fire up fully. I mean, for a second it turned over then died. And I'm out of extra gas to use as starter and in addition i wore the lithium battery down a good amount. So I'm just wondering if there's any better way to go about starting the ski for the first time in a long time. In addition, on the gas tank, there are three plugs on the left. The middle one is loose, is there any way to tighten it down?

I attached a pic for reference. The gas tank was completely dry because it was shipped to/from Hawaii. This is why I am asking for advice, since i've never had potentially empty fuel lines.

Thanks for any help.

Remove each flame arrestor and hold your hand over the carb and spin it over. That will fill the carb and fuel line very quickly. Repeat on carb number 2. That should also leave enough fuel in the motor to fire.

For as long as you let that ski sit I would ask the previous owner if he ran the ski before it shipped. Maybe the carbs had gas in them and you might get yourself a stuck needle?

I forget his username (wanderer1) lined up the sale for me from another guy on this board. I will get some starting fluid tomorrow and work on it more. You could be right, but it wouldn't be too hard to check on that.
I pressurized the tank to push fuel to the carbs when I put the motor in my blaster and it fired right up.

Good advice but unfortunately I don't have a ton of tools at my disposal. Plus, in the middle of my message I was asking how to tighten one of the hoses that is loose. But I will remember that for the future.

Charge the batt and try your hand over carbs to pull fuel. A lot of people wouldn't recommend starting fluid on premix engines.

Totally agree with not using starting fluid. Also, what gas was in it previously? My point being that if the gas had ethanol in it,then you might have some gunk in the carbs.Simply pulling the carbs and opening them up will reveal that issue.

Also, another way to get fuel is to take the return off the side of the carbs and create a suction to bring fuel thru the carbs.Re-attach and try starting again

OR ask Rosie...........he will know:)

Yeah man! Hit the stop button and start button at the same time until the lines are primed, then bam. I've done that many times, no issues.

Starter fluid pairs with water ingestion, noThing else.

I primer, manual primer or manual choke, assuming it is not flooded.

If that fails, I like using straight gas down the carbs instead. Since it has a lesser viscosity than premix, it tends to prime the carbs quicker.

Nothing against Rosie but t was totally waterlogged who told me to do that.

Altho I know Rosie just built his so he has a lot of knowledge.

While I'm here, how long should a lithium battery last if you just nonstop cranked on it with a 701 with ADA head? I cannot remember model number but it's the blue one everyone recommends. Obviously I'm liking for a non-specific answer

How many aH (amp hours) is it? A deka ETX9 is 8ah and can deliver 1 amp for 8 hours. So if your lithium battery is say 18aH and the starter pulls 100ah put hour it can last X amount of time.

It's a joke.

No need for jokes like this. If someone else looks to this thread they may not be able to tell and follow bad directions.

I hope you're not just cranking the hell out of it nonstop. You'll burn up the starter that way and potentially fry the batt. Crank for 10-15 secs then give it another 10-15 rest before cranking again as a rough guideline. If it's taking too long to pull fuel with the tricks above you've got other issues.
