Custom/Hybrid Help Please!! - Need Rickter hull weight Info for dispute

I know the 150 was off - like I said it felt heavier. But my cousin and I still lifted the crate and hauled it from my truck to my garage. I have a hard time believeing the 420#

I just feel the additional $444 is unfair. I'm willing to pay more for a heavier load (as a mistake was made), but almost double of the original estimate seems wack.
The penalty is always higher for incorrect weight. That same shipment would have been closer to 400 if shipped with the right weight

Shipped in a crate. I think we have now established our estimates are off - is that fault of the shipper or buyer?

The more important thing here is - something that weighed 150 lbs cost $235 - but shipping the exact same item that weighed 420 lbs costs a total of $675.

I am guessing it is on a big truck. Those trucks have weight limits and get checked when going through weigh stations. So the shipping company goes off size and weight and if your box takes up more weight then they lose that on the shipment. They might be charging you more because it wasn't made clear what the exact weight was so it might of screwed them up when they expected to put something else on that truck and lost out on that shipment. Just to see you should put in and get a quote for the same create, but with right weight at first.

You claimed 150#. They load truck with everything else that has correct weights. They are within 200# from being overweight. They stop at the mandatory weigh station. They are now 150lbs over weight. They get a ticket. Who is at fault here? Who should pay the penalty? Based on all the bills of laden at all their pickup points they were within their weight range. Every single item weighed at or less than their listed weight. Except Yours.......... In life, there are penalties. You got to make sure everything is covered.......... There are plenty of threads here about shipping hulls......

That may be true - but I dont see how shipping something that weighed 150 lbs cost $235 - but shipping the exact same item that weighed 420 lbs costs a total of $675.

For any future people that are having to go through this - I got FS/FR hull specs from Rickter. PM me for a copy of the PDF. (not sure how to attach it here)

Also, I paid freight quote ~$325 to ship a complete 400+ lb SXR last year from NC to CO. So, I dont know what the problem is here.

I think freightquote.com bids the job out to a network of different shippers. That's probably why you are seeing differing costs.

They run package weights before they even load the truck.. problem is virtually the same though.. they had that load planned on what packages all went on that trailer to fill that load... but now yours just screwed up their load so they couldn't load 300lbs of scheduled packages on that load and had to divert them or yours to another load...causing problems in the system will cost money... same concept though...

Here are the XFS/XFR specs

I've been through this twice previously. The scale is actually on the forklift. As it picks it up it weighs it as well. I would be certain that the forklift is calibrated. I ended up on the good side of two situations with ups freight. They can be off 75 to 100 pounds sometimes.

Not to throw this thread off, but if it was a member on here that sold you the hull I would be interested in seeing a seller feedback thread so others can avoid the other ways you got screwed in this deal. Sorry to hear about the added fees. On a positive note, you just bought a hull lots of us only dream of buying ;) Cant wait to see that bad boy in action this summer once you finish the build.

In most cases, when a person is selling a hull, they usually stipulate that "Buyer is responsible for arranging shipment of hull plus crate fee's..... This means it is up to the buyer to get all the info, not the seller. They made a mistake in determining the weight of the hull along with the size and weight of the crate.......

Nothing wrong with the seller. It was just a mistake - I have a claim going through with UPS and hopefully Freightquote and I can settle on something reasonable.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Bk I was just referring to his original post that mentioned he got screwed in another way but that was a story for another day. Just want to avoid any shady sellers if I ever fulfill my dream of joining you guys in the AM world ;)
