I have a kawa 1990 650sx and whenever it gets up on a plane the front end starts bouncing. it happens when i am kneeling and when i am standing up. i was wonder if i am doing something wrong or i should change something on the ski or if that is just how it is?

Thanks

That's called porpoising.

Only cure for it is more practice.

Try putting your feet on the wheel well rails, as far forward as you can. Only way I can ride without a porpoise.

I have a westcoast rideplate. And it still does it if i stand all the forward. would a full tank of gas help? i have been riding with less than a quarter tank.

What is a porpoise?

You'll figure out how to control that after a few more days on it. It takes a little patience... It's not the ski, it's not really you...it's just normal for a first time stand up rider and you'll figure it out.

Never rode a 650. But porposing happens in motorboats too when they're not trimmed out right. The key is to get your weight forward. Even if you gotta steer under your belly! I'm 200 lbs and to keep it smooth WOT that's what I gotta do.

Yeah, more riding. You get used to counter-acting that motion before it really gets going. There are some improvements to the ski you can make as mentioned already but you can do a lot with riding style.

Try finding an aftermaket ride plate. All of them will be longer than stock. It will help but not cure. You will have to move forward and back in the try to find the sweet spot were it dosn't do it anymore. My favorite ride plate for the 650sx is the Jet Dynamics, 2nd would be the Ocean Pro.
