Ok, this is the "really" ski, for those of you familiar. 701 SJ

I had a enhancer take a poop, so I borrowed a stock CDI from a buddy. Ski ran great.

Bought a used Enhancer, go to start the ski today, it starts great runs ok, won't shut off. I had to yank the battery cable to shut it off. I do a continuity test on both sides of the SS switch and everything appears normal.
So I assume it's the CDI. I plug the stock CDI back in and this time it kept running even after pulling the power cable!!! I had to suffocate the motor. Bastard is possessed!

It just idles, so it's not like an air leak in my experience. No crazy revving etc?

Any suggestions?

why would yanking the battery cable off stop the motor? unless the charging system wasnt working, it should keep running. pretty sure the CDI is the reason it isnt shutting off unless you have a bad connection inside the box at the black or white wire. i suggest you swap out the CDI with a for sure good one but first check the wire connections since thats what you messed with

With an msd it needs power to run. If you disconnect the cable it kills power to the CDI stopping spark.

Sounds like a faulty msd to me. Try swapping your white wires first. I've seen that cause a no stop.

Also I've seen them act funny where you have to hold the stop button instead of just hitting it once.

And I just read your whole post and realized the stocker is doing that too. Something wrong with your white wire connection from the switch to the box somewhere is my guess.

Earlier I tried bypassing the stop button, and used some pliers to jump across the black/white wires. Still didn't shut off. Had to suffocate the motor again.

Wouldn't it be easier to pull off the spark plug wires to kill it?

pull of the stop wires from inside the ebox, clean them, add some di electric and make sure they are pushed all the way together.

no thats a fast way to shock the hell out of yourself. I shock myself bad and it was over 6 months to heal my one finger and i also pulled a muscle and had to wear a splint for 3 or 4 months

You shocked yourself so bad from a spark plug wire that it pulled a muscle in your finger?
