and another:

- if adjusting the throttle cable to remove slack from the lever, make sure you test it afterwards...turning the handlebars one way or the other can tighten the cable and open the carb butterfly if you've taken out too much slack.

(My friend swore up and down that his ski kept changing idle speeds and he could never keep it adjusted. This was the cause :)

Hello aramis
Throttle adjustment nobie here.
I have two questions for you, my first question is I've read on other forums that you want to have 4 mm of slack in the throttle cable is that right?
Second question is when adjusting the slack out of the throttle lever cable do I also need to adjust the cable at the carburetor?

You need the slack so the idle adjustment screw can do it's job. Really, any amount of slack you like is acceptable as long as it doesn't interfere with the idle but allows the butterfly in the carb to be held to the fully open position. Slack and slop are pretty interchangeable words. I hate slop. 4mm is way too much for my taste, but I also like my throttle to be WOT when it hits the grip so holding WOT stops at the grip rather than yanking excessively on the cable or the throttle arm.

Don't buy anything that isn't branded by the company, from.a vendor. Anything for a jet ski can be sourced yourself for almost half of what vendors on here or other sites charge. You will be hundreds of dollars ahead of you follow this rule.

Only buy oem parts for your engines. Don't skimp on sbt or wsm. Not worth it

Don't run your ski if it has noises or vibrations. Stop. Go to shore or home. And find the issue. Doesn't matter if you spent 80 bucks on gas and beer for the day.

Wear a good vest and good shoes because fishermen leave hooks and tweakers drop beer bottles.

Stop at your local sheriff office and touch base with the boating unit. You will be glad you did when you meet them on the water.

Join the Facebook groups. They are much more friendly and far less biased than this site.

Have fun and meet as many riders as you can out there and get as many people as you can to buy a ski.

I agree with everything you said except the above. The facebook groups are good to know who's out there and maybe find a quick part or a riding buddy. However, (and I just posted my frustration in one the other day) the amount of GARBAGE advice from people who have NO IDEA what they are talking about is astounding. I don't know what you mean by "less biased" than this site... A good portion of the members here are very knowledgeable. If bias means calling people out for stupid, completely uninformed advice, then I'm guilty here and on the FB groups. I've been on facebook since it debuted (and you needed a .edu email). I've been into skis since shortly after. I just joined the standup facebook group a few months ago. I'm so glad I didn't do it any earlier.....

I think I may have commented on your thread. The amount of random ass part swap suggestions on those groups is unreal. Motor backfiring? Swap out your ODI grips, that should fix it!

I try to politely call people out on there if their advice to the OP is complete crap, not that I know everything, but some of these people...
