Other Help! What to do about extreme grass growth in lake?

Thanks to Georgia Powers stellar efforts to take forever on dam repairs we now. Of only don't have enough water to do anything with, we also now own a nice, secluded marsh. There is grass covering our entire cove as high as three feet. The lake finally came up a bit so now we have maybe a foot of water. What will happen to the grass when the lake gets a few feet higher? Our cove is only 4-5 feet deep normally. I'm really. It sure what can be done about the massive pasture that replaced our lake. What sorts of grass/weed removal options are you guys aware of? And will the grass more than likely die soon or keep growing?

When I get home in a bit I'll add pics so you guys can see how bad it is

U sure that doesn't help them grow faster?? You can use barley straw to kill many aquatic weeds. Your issue is prolly a type of saw grass but try a couple bails of barley straw. Never know

What are the chances I could talk georgia power into addressing the problem since its pretty much their fault?
They let the lake so low it was all dry land. In the past few years we have never had an issue like this.

The lake still needs 3-4 feet to be back to normal but it still looks bad.

Wow i used ride at jackson lake when i was in high school. thats crazy. i would def get with your neighbors and tell everyone to call ga power. Will it drop lower enough to get out there in the winter with a tiller and some grass killer?

Josh , It should die as soon as the water comes up ( it will be stagnate as hell and stink for a while ) . If the water goes down hit it with a strong dose of round up . Our shore line grew up as well..... I cut it before the last bit of rain so its not so oogy woogoogy on your feet when beaching skis.


FYI the repairs were completed a while ago .... Ga power has been generating I.E. not letting us have water . We are all wondering if this is a change in policy or are they trying to quickly recoop the cost of the repair . Either way this weekend was the first time since OCT I could get my boat off the lift ......

WOW, i thought my buddys lake "grassy lake" at camp was bad, but it has nothing on this, that's crazy. My buddy can't even have a beach cause of all the grass "weeds", and he can't do anything about it since he'll get charged for destroying habitat, but i think you sir have a case and should be allowed to kill some. Good luck and hope you get to ride that lake again.

Wow man that sucks! You guys need to get together and make GP deal with that......I assume all of the houses were sold as waterfront property and I assume GP does not have the right to let it dry up entirely, right?

Shadow I know thae feeling. Lake hartwell where I live in Clemson SC is the same way. It is 9 feet down and a lot of the coves look like cow pastures. Being Hartwell is a Corps of Engineers lake there is nothing homeowners can do. The Corps can do anything they please. Be carefull what you do, we have many restrictions as to what you can do below the "Corp Line"

cut an exit trail with your weed eater. herbicides may also have a 'trickle down effect' in the food chain/circle of life and kill or poison fish.

Well most lakes I've ever known were technically owned by a power company or government (county, state, etc.) and they typically own 30+ feet in your backyard. So to say that they dried up "your" lake when they own the property on the lake is inaccurate. What they really did was dry up "their" lake on "their" property. It really sucks but it happens. It's kind of like living on a golf course. If the course closes, the house value goes down but the owners of the golf course aren't responsible.

At the same time though, who is really going to complain if you continue cutting the fairway on the golf course that went bankrupt. It's kind of the same thing on the lake. Are you neighbors really going to complain to the power company if you remove the weeds? Are the cops going to patrol weed infested waters and catch you removing them?

Honestly, I would run out and buy a swamper 4 wheeler and make the most of it! Jeep? Razor!?
