Other Help! What to do about extreme grass growth in lake?

cut an exit trail with your weed eater. herbicides may also have a 'trickle down effect' in the food chain/circle of life and kill or poison fish.

If the water goes down and exposes the shore line spray it . 4 out of 5 biologist that ride agree and consider this best management practice .

Another alternative is to lay black sheet plastic over the area . That will kill the SH%$ out of it while satisfying the environmental WABcos

Before the rain a week ago it was completely dry in our cove and the grass grew fast. We weed eated (ate?) around the dock but its already grown back to a foot +
Now that it has rained there is about a foot of water in the three feet of grass so idk how well a weed eater would work. Hopefully the lake will come up more soon, its depressing not being able to go the lake at all. Ive ridden my fx once this year and that was at a friends.

On a similar note, does anyone know much about having an area dredged? The cove is pretty shallow as is and it seems to slowly get even more shallow. It would be nice to have it dredged and the grass removed all at once.

Is that an FX-1 that I spy in the "before" photo?

Your frustration is certainly justified! I hope it gets back to normal for you soon. Looks like a nice place!

Yep, FX1 and 550.

When it was dry you should have gotten an excavator in there.

I havent had the free time personally. School + work + internship has had me busy most of the time. And although it was dry, it was still pretty easy to sink into the sand/silt just walking on it. Plus out driveway is a good 20 feet higher than the lake and the only way down is quite a steep hill.

Dredging is $$$$ . You are looking at 15,000 plus . My brother priced it on Hartwell . If you could get everyone in your cove to buy it it may lower the cost and improve the cove for everyone. A friend of mine dredged his cove on Jackson and basically created a usable lake lot and sold it during in the building boom .

Spray a little round up in an area where the grass is in/over the water. See what happens. When the water was low you should have been spraying like a mad man!

That situation really sucks dude.

You could ask around and see if anyone has one has a little boat with one of those mud bogging motors. Drink beer and drive that sucker around. Don't get a dwi!

This is going to be your cheapest (relatively effective) method (that doesn't involve herbicide). A roll of Visqueen shouldn't cost too much and will easily cover the effected area. The lack of light should kill all of the weeds in short order.

Always good to find another FX-1 owner around!

You can see from the before and after pics that the water is too low(angle of the dock), grass is getting more than enough sunlight to grow like crazy. I thought you were talking a weeds problem, that looks like my front lawn! Good luck.

Yep, I dont think we will be using our "lake" house this year at all. It sucks. Ive ridden my ski like twice this year. Although when talking to my parents and some of their friends they mentioned knowing someone with a bobcat that might could get down there and clear it out cheaply and maybe dig it a bit deeper by our dock. But we would have to get it done before the water comes higher, assuming its not too high already.
