SX/SXi/SXi Pro help will not crank

Ok so i have a 750 sx that ran beautiful about a week ago, how ever the over the weekend i went to start her up to get it winterized and what do u know it wouldn't start, further more it wouldn't even crank now. at first i suspected battery wasn't strong enough to turn the starter but after a nice long charge i put the battery back, hit start and all i get is a single click than another click when i let go of start. im not to familiar with these engines so i pulled the plugs thinking maybe its seized up or something does this sound like it could be right(plugs appeared to be lightly rusty, but nothing to crazy, looked in cylinders with flash light and they don't look to rusted at all but to be on the safe side hit them with a little marvel mystery oil let it sit for 2 days and tried it again yesterday and still nothing but a single on and off click. thats basicaly ware im at with the ski now any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as i am completely lost at this point. should i pull the engine and just start a winter rebuild, or could this be my starter has gone bad, or a computer issue?

A few tests first.

Can you turn the PTO or shaft by hand with the plugs removed? If it doesn't budge, it's locked up.

Isn't there a way on the 750 e-box to short the starter straight to the battery? Follow the positive cable from the battery to a post on the ebox, then do the same for the starter. Then short those 2 posts temporarily w/ a piece of metal. If it doesn't crank, probably your starter.

thanks how would i go about turning it by hand? and yea i thought about jumping the starter but didnt wanna *duck around to much around the computer. i assume that the clicking noise im hearing is the starter relay but what do i know lol. ive had nothing but probs with this ski but hopefully next season will be a happier story, now that ive encountered just about every issue there is out there.

Just take the plugs out, grab ahold of the PTO (if it has one) or the driveshaft and turn. It's recommended to turn in the same direction that the engine runs.

If your battery is less then 13 volts, that could be the problem as well.

ive tried a few batteries all ready but makes no difference. would i here any noise from the starer if the engine was locked up? i cant see how in a half weeks time it could possible be locked up to the point of no return. especially after havening soaked in marvel for 3 days. i mean ive seen engines sitting in the rain for 3 years break free after just one night sitting with some mystery oil. but than again salt water is a different animal.

I know you have tried different batteries..but have you cleaned the connections that go onto the battery. I have had this happen from time to time with the same noise that you explained on my kawi's and cleaning the those connections instantly fixed it for me. I actually carry a wire brush in my tool kit just in case.

A knife scraping the contact will do the same.

I'll bet that's not your problem.

I'll bet a large sum your problem is the starter.

did u jump the starter solenoid?? if you dont know how just take a crappy wrench and on your e-box those 2 lil rubber coverd uncover them one sas stater one sas battery it will be two posts sticking out put the wrench on both of them at the same time wit the wrench lil spark nothin serious tho good luck

didn't have a change to get to my ski today, will update tomorrow afternoon some time, but from what i understand if i can manually turn my engine than i'm looking towards the starter as an issue, but if i cant turn the engine than ill be looking towards a new winter rebuild project. also ill check all my connections just to be on the safe side. anything i'm missing here?

Allright so i finally had a chance to take a look at her today, turns out its frozen up pretty bad so i started my engine disassembly, ware would i be able to find a good rebuild kit?

Do like Kawi4me said and see if the pump is froze first. Those pumps are cake to pull, just 4 bolts.

There's not much to the rebuild. You'll need new rings and the cylinders bored, of course. Then there's just replacing all the seals/gaskets.

My suggestion is to help your local small jetski shop and get the parts through them. Otherwise get a good gasket kit.

hey thanks for the input and advice, from what ive seen looking around on line i basically need every gasket on the engine as i have the entire thing apart right now, i also need new pistons, knocked one off my work bench and it managed to crack so i figure that i should replace both to be safe, ill also need piston rings, and the wrist pin bearings as they are in pretty bad shape from the rust. while its apart are there any parts i should modify or replace that may reflect a performance increase? also is there anything that may be commonly over looked in the reassembly that i should look out for? another thing i noticed the other day is that the pistons have little arrows on them, i forgot to make note of which way they point when i disassembled, do they point towards the intake manifold of the exhaust side?

Pistons should be replaced in pairs, IMO.

After you put the engine together, it's good practice to perform a leak-down test.

Keep your work area clean so you can keep the inside of the engine clean.
