Super Jet Help with contact cement on SJ side rails

The side rails came off my SuperJet. Yes, I do want to keep them and not just turf it. Help...

I've tried re-gluing them twice now and after a few days riding they come off again. FAIL.

I do have the recommended Wildwood contact cement. I rough up both sides, paint it on both sides, and let it sit until it is not wet (12-15 min), then stick together, and hit along the glued area with a rubber mallet.

I'm thinking either:
-I am painting it on too thick (less is more?)
-or I need to remove ALL of the old adhesive. I merely roughed it up a bit, but did not remove it all. It's hard to remove from the rubber.

I even tried gluing a piece of rubber truck upholstery and it only lasted a few weeks... FAIL.

Do two thin coats with 10-15 min dry time in between.. Not sure why its coming off.. Make sure their dry to the touch before you stick em.. Shouldn't stick to your fingers or pull off when you touch it..

Clean all of the old glue off
Scuff them up
Wipe everything down with acetone
Coat of glue on both
Wait 10min
Another coat of glue on both
Wait 10min
Put rails on
Rivets.

Okay, two coats seems like a common theme.

Yes, it is immediately adhered when I press them together.

Any tips on removing the old glue from the rubber? I can scrape it off the hull, but the rubber is too flexible.

Will see if I can find that. Anything with VOCs is hard to find in CA... I think they have the green low VOC formulation which I was hoping to avoid.

Go into any laminate shop and you will not find weldwood. Wilsonart is superior. Home depot keeps it in the countertop isle. Sold by the quart or gallon.

Wilsonart 600 is no longer available at Home Depot after asking several people in store. Google will find it on their site, but you can't buy, and searching from the hodo website it is not available. Meaning it's been unlisted.

In fact, in all of my searching, I have not found a single place to buy it online.

Their website does not show that homeowners can buy adhesives. I am going to try calling a few flooring distributors tomorrow.

Do you have any recommendations or leads?

You want to find a sheet goods distributer. Flooring places wont have it. Sheet goods sell plywood and laminates for cabinet shops.
