Wiped out doing a WOT run....hit a little booby wave and bit it. Never let go of the ski...it fell carb side up. (no water injestion)

Then it wouldn't run right. Alternating between running perfect and only going 3-4 mph every 2 seconds. and then just limping for the rest of the ride into the docks....

1. First thought I blew a FP coupler. (nope, its good..putted it around with no hood on and saw no problems)
2. Thought I blew the top end...(looks good, no shrapnel on the plugs, pistons look good in the holes). Turns over smooth.
3. Looked for kinked fuel lines, broken carb linkage, pinched vent line....all good.

THEN, I found one of the bolts that holds the motor to the bed plate in the bottom of the hull. Engine is a little loose on the bed plate. (gotta pull the motor). Not sure how this would make it run bad??? ....or is it an unrelated problem???

Any ideas, thoughts, comments, curse words or girly pictures accepted... :grumble:

All the shaking your loose motor is doing may be playing havoc with the fuel pump. Get everything bolted down solid, and your problem might go away. I've seen this with rubber mounted buckshot carbs, and once they are braced to reduce shaking the fuel flow improves.

how does it idle? if you have a bolt from the bed plate to the case, then perhaps more case bolts are loose and you have a case leak. It would be just a coincidence that it ran poorly after the wipe out, but as we all know, it could happen.

If you have it, you might look for a grounded over temp sensor. I had a ignition enhancer do something similar once , it would run great then sputter bad and sometimes not at all.
Good luck

Case is tight. No leakage...(bright silver motor).

I have a temp sensor that just floats around the hull (zip tied to other wires)...not sure what to check with that.

Gonna pull the motor tomorrow and get it all tight....That's the only thing I can find wrong...

Spied this one for you while having dinner (had to run for it and weather was nasty, so best I could do, wore me out too, lol)…looks like your wife…obviously hitched to someone else as of yesterday though…about to go have lunch, so I will see if I can find you some more. :spank:

Our biggest issue since weve been riding skis, is getting water in the gas tank, and from what your describing it sounds very similar. Not saying thats what it is, but siphon out the lowest part of your fuel tank and see what happens.

Also having your inline fuel filter laying horizonal may have inconsistant fuel flow, having it set vertical, the fuel had no choice but to go into the carbs, just from my experience in the recent past....

Tightened up the plug caps, fired it up today and runs great on the trailer....wtf??? .............must've rattled a plug wire loose... Suzi...I meant bikini girls! Still gotta pull the motor and bolt it back up to the bed plate.

btw...my wife is wayyyyyyyy hotter than that girl! lol.

hey DJ, did you have your motor painted? If you did sand the paint down to the aluminum on the bottom of the bedplate mounting bosses...and everywhere else a bolt goes. I didn't and when the paint crumbled over time I started loosing bolts like crazy..

thats what i was goin to recommend. i had plug wire slide out alittle on the roundnose after a splash the other day and thats kinda what it did. it wouldn't get out of its own way trying to get on plain, but once there it ran fine. i had to trim the wire back a tad to get it to work right, but now it runs good again.
