Bad answer. You may be raising port timing by doing that. Install OEM base gasket. Put the head on and check squish. If squish is to tight then you need to see about getting the domes cut and also measured to confirm CC volume.

^^^ good call! That's more of a simple bandaid. But the amount it would be raised would be miniscule most likely.

Rings were floating fine when I installed the cylinder after checking the base gasket. This might be a stupid question but if I went too heavy on the grease for the o rings and it squeezed into the combustion chamber could that be throwing it off?
 
Update... Finally got the ski put together and was able to fire it up. After 20 seconds running checked comp and she's pushing 200 a hole. I'm gonna say the grease used on the o rings was the culprit.
