Higher Quality Primers??

Are there multiple manufacturers of plunger type primers? The generic ones available everywhere seem to be good for one season and then croak.

Can anyone suggest a quality one?

I tried the bulb style but was not happy at all ...went back to plunge and although tearing them off all the time still seems to be doing the job....

Crammit told me trick about shooting wd-40 into the primer to bring it back to life, right before the ride Friday I checked my primer and it didn't work,I used the WD trick and voila its working like a new one again.

How hard is it to install one on a stock 550 and will the kit contain everything i need? I really need one, my 550 is hard to get started and i know it would help my battery a ton. Is it something i can install when my ski is sitting on the dock before i go ride or should i order one and wait to take it to the lake?

It's not hard to do on a 550 at all. I did mine in under 30 minutes & that was taking my time.

the bulb primers work nice... just keep them out of the sun. i left my ski uncovered all summer and wore mine out between april and august. the rubber dry rotted.

needless to say i went the rest of the season with no primer.

the regular primers are easy to break off with your feet though.

I guess the rubber washers dry out. I read something on greenhulk about replacing the stock washers with vitron(spelling?)o-rings and they will last much longer.

I just ordered 4 cheapies. Damn primer almost ruined my first day out. I had to steal one from my kid's SN...

Thanks for the ideas everyone!:Banane01:
