highsides suck

I crashed my bike on Monday at the track. Nice little highside coming out of a tight corner. Likely doing about 60-70mph. Amazing how fast it happens. One min your cranking on it and then you have about 1/100th of a second to go  and then its like you had a rope tied to the front end of your bike and you reached the end of it. GONE, the bike is just gone in an instant yanked right out from under you. Then I bounced and tumbled, bounced and tumbled, bounced and tumbled, down the track. I remember have enough time to wish I would come to a stop soon.

Injurys? Well the first thing I did since I was only 2 ft from the side of the track was to roll off the track and then just collapse there and try to come to my senses. At first I thought I might have snapped my left leg at about the top of the boot, it just didn't feel right. Well after a short ambulance ride and then another exam on Tues it would appear that I've torn some ligaments in my left knee, sprained my left ankle and of course I have bumps and bruises as well as a little road rash were my leathers bunched up and slid up my leg a little.

Damage? The bike appears to have come out amazingly well considering that is bounced on its left side and then at some point was standing almost straight up on its nose and then landed and slid down the track on its left side. After a quick once over it looks like I need one engine side cover, clutch lever, fairing stay and some fiberglass work to my race fairings. I also need to replace my brand new Aria helmet, my gloves and will have too see about my leathers.

Overall I still feel that I'm pretty lucky this could have been a lot worse. This was a fairly violent crash just ask Smitty he was two riders back and got to watch it all.

Here's some pics.
Bike pics will have to come later it is still at Smitty's house.

Later
Steve

SWEET

love track days.. fricken expensive tho! now you gotta replace all that gear besides the bike parts.. $$$$ ouch

hey, people tear ligaments on skis too.. break noses, bones, ankles, legs.. its all dangerous once you take it to the next level.

just dont come up short on a huge double at the mx track.. ask stricky..

Well I've now got all winter to replace the gear, helmet and gloves for sure the leather might still be good. This crash will likely end up costing my $1000 without replacing the leather. I can use my hockey money for this winter since I pretty sure I won't be playing. Ebay here we come.

I knew I was going to crash eventually. I go to the track to go fast and push my limits so I don't have to on the street.
If anything this makes me want to do less street riding and more track time next year. Could you imagine the possible out come of an accident like this on the street. Gaurd rails, sign post, cars, curbs etc.

See ya.

Well, what do you expect with such a high center of gravity?

That sucks though: like you said - better on the track than the street. Hope your knee heals OK. At least you have some good battle scars on the leathers now

Glad you're OK Steve. Sorry I won't see you at the Rager this year. I got the same gloves you have. It looks like they did a good job. Let me know if I can do anything.

I knew I was going to crash eventually

Everybody crashes eventually, there are 3 kinds of riders:
those that have crashed
those who will crash
and those who lie about it

on a side note hope you get better, I lowsided my bike into a high side (dont ask, only doing 40) no major injuries besides torn ligaments (sp) and a totalled '04 R6 and a smashed fence. I know quite a few people who crash at crazy speeds and walk/ride away, I crashed at 40 and busted the crap out of my bike (broke engine case open, demolished left peg, tail section, mirror, and new pipe)
