yamasaki that pic is histerical the way that blaster is...is that just a hull or a complete ski?
isnt boxed tubing stonger than solid?
i have the $50 hitch thing.. ive used it to tow my ski a couple of times.. never a prob. it does seem shady though.
i'd like to build another one like butti's for my Xterra....but Im scared of it..
opinions? 02 X 4x4, hitch is rated at a 500 lb tounge wt.......too much wt. for that sized SUV?

Yeah, i'm in the same boat (lol, no pun intended) with my 03 liberty...except i have to deal with the spare tire on the back. I'm worried about the extra weight caused by the leverage from the ski being so far out (about a foot) from the back of the jeep. Add 70lbs tongue weight of my single trailer hauling a couch behind the carrier, it might be too much for the libby to handle??? i think i'm SOL
I had one made using 2" sq stock and rebar..... weighs about 70#s and cost $50-$65 to make with a friend welding it, I'm sure more if you take it to someone. As others have said, it needs to be as close as it can be to the vehicle or you'll be jeopardizing the tongue weight limit on your vehicle.

IMO I'd stay away from the rack conversions you see people doing, the racks use thin walled steel that doesn't look like it will hold up, even though they're rated at 500#s.
about a foot on each side here too. makes you sweat when you go through a tool booth!
I wish we had tool booths around here... Just a quick stop and go and your back working on your project before you know it!Yeah... those damn tool booths....about a foot on each side here too. makes you sweat when you go through a tool booth!
:cool2:
i dont think i would want to do it on anything less than a 1/2 ton truck.plus on a small or midsize the ski would stick out about a foot on each side
air shocks are your friend for this application. Shanklands Tacoma needed air shocks and now it is perfect and my grand cherokee acted like it had tubbies on it. A short wheel base little suv will have too much play in the front end and you will drive around doing a minnie wheelie. Sux if you drive the freeway.
