Always a good idea. I have taken my ski to Daytona from Alabama (10 Hours 1 way) 2 times now, Heavy Superjet with just the straps on the ends. I did throw a strap across the tray once, but it was there to strap gas can to. Extra will never hurt, but protect the hull surface also.

After you pointed this out it the light went on. I follow exactly what you mean and after looking at other pics of the same type of hauler it makes sense. I will adjust and follow your advice in the future. Thanks big man - Johnny

my carriers have two race car style tabs welded to the main support tube ( right in the center) We use two separate ratchet style straps .. one from tab to front hole of ski, one from other tab to rear hole on ski or ride plate. This way the ratchets are using downward force to keep the ski on the bunks and also center pul against each other to keep the ski from moving side to side. a 3rd ratchet strap completely around the ski pole and bunks if you are traveling far. 7 years and not a single ski has come off while driving . here are a couple shots from customers of the V2 carrier that i make towing behind it .
my carrier will tow 5ooolbs ( but what you need to be concerned with is tongue weight) most class 3 hitches will only support 650lbs of tongue weight .. downward force)

I have a 1/2 ton Chevy with a class III hitch, plus a 5k lb wake boat. Tongue weight being the problem, I've been thinking of going to a receiver mounted in front. Only issue I can see is it's blocking the headlights, so daytime use only.

Mine today. Easy to launch & slides on/off the garage dolly easily.

I installed the Curt receiver today..... with the receiver on top. So no loss of clearance at all. It lines up almost right behind the license plate, which I mounted with a spring loaded hinge mount. Also needed to use a 12" extension since I have the grill guard. In the end its VERY sturdy & should work great to haul a jetski up front so I can tow another boat out back.

BTW, it clears the lower tube of the Frontier Xtreme grill guard by maybe 1/4".

I stopped by a neighbor's place today with the jetski mounted on the front of the truck. He's a WA state trooper, just wanted to get his opinion on it. He said there were several issues, blocking the license plate & it's a few inches wider than the truck. Funny that neither of those are problems with it mounted in the back. But anyway, he said if I wasn't speeding or doing anything stupid & was driving in the daylight, he wouldn't bother to pull me over. But if I WAS doing something else illegal, it might be added to the list of offenses.

Is there a hitch hauler out now that you could use as a cart also? I've been thinking of desighning one where all you have to do it add wheels and a Handel and you could wheel you ski down the beach and load and unload easily by your self

I thought about this the other day as well...get on it son!

Need a ski for measurements lol. I have a concept drawn up. Tubular steel contruction. Square tube slides in to you recover with a small extension off it to a round tube. The tube acts as a collar allowing another tube to slide over it. Second tube becomes a pivot point (after you pull a hitch pin out that connects the 2) attach a couple quick detach wheels and a pull out a testable handle and it would be a beach cart. Attach wheels , pull the pin , rotate the hualler down , pull out the handle and launch.

Push the cart in the water , float the ski on it , roll it back to the truck , slide the collar back in , install the second high pin , push in the handle and detach the wheels and your on your way again.

Without any real technical thought, hauler needs to be strong , for the cart, the lighter the better. I know how heavy my hitch hauler is , I would not want to roll it thru sand. Find that happy medium

How much is the gas can rack????
As of right now I am not making the gas can rack. I have planned on doing it for a while just don't really have extra time with how many carriers I'm building plus my day job. The pictures that you see our customers of mine that I believe have bought a fuel can holder that is meant for the front of a trailer and then simply mounted it to a 2 inch by 2 inch square piece of tubing with a hole drilled in it so that it can slide into the rear of the V2 carrier. 20160624_203110.jpg
