Super Jet hmm need help 701 bogging issue

well i balled up and dove in and the rest of the carb besides the prefilter which was completely spotless the prefilter did have some big chunks in it but not much so i dont think it was enough to affect performance and on a plus side i managed to do it all without tearing or messing up any of the gaskets ect

ok did the pulse test (blowing into the pulse hose on the fuel pump and it seems to be working properly, i just put a adjustable rev cdi that i have maxed out in it could it be possible that the stock pump cant keep up with the fuel demand of the higher revs? i didnt think of this sooner because i ran it twice with th cdi with no problem

ok ive rebuilt the carb, changed the plugs made sure the internals of the ebox are staying dry and im still having the bogging issue, i went out today and it kinda feels more like its dropping a cylinder randomly and then picking back up again at random intervals? any ideas on what could be causing this? ive been chasing this problem for about a month now so any and i mean any ideas will be tried to see if it fixes it

i just put a brand new adjustable cdi in it, and no i havent, i was going to tomorrow, but figured i would get on here and see if i can find any other probable causes that i could look into while im digging around the engine compartment

A basic suggestion: Check to make sure the ventilation valve in the top of the gas tank is not clogged. If air cannot displace the fuel that is being pulled from the tank, then you will bog and stall.

there is no valve its just a hose??? it was like that when i first got the ski and it ran fine for about 2 months with it like that so i dnt think thats the cause

if its dropping random cylinder that sounds more like cdi. Not sure I would run a ski without a check valve that is asking for moisture and water in the tank.

Pop off pressure is probably way to high. I had the exact same issue for a long time. I rebuilt my carbs multiple times, changed fuel filters, leak down engine test, rebuilt the engine with all new seals etc etc etc it kept doing the same thing. I finally put a lighter pop off spring in and it's been perfect ever since. It was a couple years of changing stuff, rebuilding stuff etc when all I needed was a lighter spring.

Originally my carbs had the stock setting springs which is why I never changed them. But I realized the ski was lean when I punched it to WOT hence the bog down. Otherwise it ran just fine. At that point I lowered the pop off pressure to way below stock.

Good luck-Soctt

is there any way to test the stator without pulling the flywheel, and what should the olms metter read if te stator is good?, if the ski was running great for awhile then after one ride it went bad and nothing was changed how cold the pop off change or whatever to make that be the problem? bu i will see if i can get apop off gauge and test soon

I don't know how it would happen. I do remember the exact ride that mine changed to not running well. It was about 7 months after I got my ski. It had run awesome up until this day. Then one day I did a lake ride with lots of alligators. I rode for an hour or so then got lunch and when I went back out the ski bogged down and quit with lots of big alligators around. It took a bit of time to get it started and running. It ran fine the rest of the day. The next ride I did it would bog down when I would peg the throttle. If I blipped the throttle a couple of times it would clear out and run fine until I went to idle for a little bit. As soon as I would goto wide open or near wide open quickly it would bog down.

Nothing helped me except lowering the pop off pressure. I mean I went through everything up to and including a 100% rebuild of my engine. If I would have realized the bog is from a "lean" condition i.e. not enough gas getting in quickly I could have saved myself a lot of time and effort and money.

lots of emphasis on the gators lol where can i order the springs to adjust pop off and what spring did you switch to? and anything on the stator questions from my previous post?

so i tested the stator and its bad, and well opened up the case to pull the flywheel and change the stator and to my surprise the cover has a layer of brown goo (looks like what oil does when water mixes with it) so some how water is getting into my case....which is what i think caused the stator to go bad....what are some probable places water can get in at? and whats a easy way to check the case for cracks?
