i had mine attached to the pipe and filled it with water. let it sit over night right side up and there wasn't a drop of water missing. i tried the same with the 2 piece valve from lowes and all the water was gone before i walked away.

this turned out to be a good thread thanks for the info guys.
what do you ask them for exactly. I said one way valve at home depot and they looked at me like I was crazy. The only valve I found that looked close had a loose flap that did not look like it would close completly.

They are in the plumbing aisle next to the sump pumps. They are really a sump pump check valve, they are in a white box and are made by flotec.

thats why yours leaked. someone all ready posted that lowe's valves suck really bad. home depot = good, lowes = crap.
I used the zoeller one-way valve (sump-pump valve), it's been solid since install 2yrs ago.
