Also, what are you guys doing with the sag in the glass near where the handpole mounts? I was thinking I'd level it out with some epoxy

The known SN SJ hull sag is a big issue, and can affect the hood seal actually sealing. Lock your pole in the up position, and look how much you can "flex" the front engine compartment by pulling on the pole. Just filling with epoxy is really not enough.

On SN's I have built, I re-inforce the front area with a small piece of angle under running full width, and a flat plate on top in the seal channel. Through bolted. This will straighten, and stiffen it up.

That's exactly what I did. I had extra epoxy from laying my carbon fiber. I poor it in there and let it self level. I have pictures on my "yet another square nose restore" thread.

What about when you used just the Watcon seal? Was it ok?

Yeah it is a nice seal. Nothing is going to help though unless you have a tight fit and fix the bow in the front of the ski that all SN's have. (I leveled mine with epoxy and filler)

Huh... So that is common... Had my sn for a year now never paid much attention since it's not my main ride but noticed it when i was workin on it a couple weeks ago and thought it seemed odd!

Oldish thread, But for those of you that stumble upon this like I did and need an option. I followed this tread "SurfSeal" and bought this hood seal for seadoo.

Here's the original Seadoo Part# 293250047 NEOPRENE SEAL.

Been working great, the company sent me a scrap strip before I bought it to make sure it would work.
that was march 2016. Still holding strong. I am very pleased.

This is a good tip. I'm going to have to do something with mine as its sagging a bit. Do you use aluminum or Steel John? Aluminum seems more ideal.

Use aluminum. When I did my wife's, I clamped the aluminum under the front lip loosely. Then I used my heat gun, it took quite a bit of heat, and I slowly tightened the clamps. When I got it straight I left the clamps in place until it cooled. Then I removed it, epoxied it, reclamped it.

i bough the Surf seal years ago when the guy was selling it on here , that's what I am using in my square nose.
 
Use aluminum. When I did my wife's, I clamped the aluminum under the front lip loosely. Then I used my heat gun, it took quite a bit of heat, and I slowly tightened the clamps. When I got it straight I left the clamps in place until it cooled. Then I removed it, epoxied it, reclamped it.
We use aluminum. I use angle on the inside, and flat stock on the top in the channel where the seal goes. Drill, and through bolt.

Thank you both! I will head down to ACE Hardware and see what I can find. I'm tempted to use stainless countersink bolts under the seal with the flat bar so it still seals well. (pretty sure I have a watcon seal) :)

Myself good idea to heat it up and slowly tighten it up.

I've had Watcon hood seals on my SN, RN and Blaster for years and they've performed well and held up great. Like ksarge says above, use weldwood contact cement in addition to the self stick. Take the time to properly clean out the channel. Never heard of the SN issue, mine seems fine, but now I'll keep an eye out on it!
