Hood straps on AM surf hulls?

For any AM hull owners, how many of you who ride surf use hood straps along with hood latch. Bob's, Hurricane's, Rickter's etc etc etc. Obviously each hull has a different lip on the hoods, so share your hood latch/strap setups for surf on your specific hulls. (pics are welcome).

Thanks
P.

the q8 i have has blowsion straps with an oem latch setup. my bob has a single ratchet strap. personally think i like the q8 setup better.

Thanks, I appreciate the input. My bob gen3 is utilizing stock latch as I don't trust not using it (along with some other sort of strap). Have you run your bob in the surf with just ratchet strap? results?

my bob has benn flopped thrown around and beat to hell all summer. not an issue. the ratchet strap is just a pita i dont want to deal with. no serious surf. but yacht wakes and wakeboard boats tearing it up.

My ROK uses pins up front, OEM style latch in the back, and a single ratchet strap over the latch.

Just running a single for flatwater and boat chasing for me. Some pretty good hits and fails over the summer and no issues. I like this setup because it keeps all the sharp hardware under the pole and away from my knees etc... And it's simple. I can honestly say I had less tray injuries this summer running this setup.

Ratchet with blowsion hood straps. The 2 straps are worth the extra 30 bucks to possibly save your ski from sinking.

I installed oem hood latch and homemade hood straps (McMaster) on my footrocket and my buddies xfs I built. We both ride surf. His latch has came loose/off a few times during backflip fails but the hood never goes anywhere with the straps installed.

I am all over my tray in the surf! I mean everywhere....and the landings!? Who knows where mt feet/knees will be!? I hate the site of that big stainless ratchet!! Eeeek! And then if it is only one and nothing else I am like EEK! I have always gone with OE latch and 2 non shrinking nylon straps and clips with. And then SS eyes and the little eye tool from a craft store. Bomb proof!5.jpg 8.jpg 9.jpg 5.jpg 8.jpg 9.jpg

I agree, I just bought the strap and buckles to do this same setup. I don't knock the ratchett strap use but after I broke my knee cap AND had 3" of my shin bone sticking out of my leg from a failed flip attempt (all in one motion), I don't need anything else on my ski that wants to tear me up. ;)

Jeezus...sounds horrible. Did this happen at the coast? Where do you normally ride out of Tigard?

Ahhhhg! Broke kneecap on the ratchet or just some part of the ski!?
Knee cap hit rail on my bob, right at foothold and shin dug in at the lip of the ski even under 1" under padding it cut to the bone! aagghh is right. It was the oddest situation as I injured both parts of my leg at once and rode back to shore with only the slightest feeling of a "bump". Thinking back on other crashes over the years I've fallen from 10 foot jumps on waves before on my squarenose and literally didn't feel a thing. This was in the river practicing a few days before Surfslam and after 3 months now, and I am only now walking, "normal". Call it overkill but I will never ride without shin/knee guards again and also just can't think of using a ratchet strap as a consequence of what could happen. I'll be turning 38 in a few weeks and my body doesn't seem to take abuse like it used to. ;) I know I am not alone with some of you not-so-young bucks who are still riding hard.

what a ratchet strap did to me at wave rave this year lol poop happens. i like to try to avoid it though.

I ride an FR-2 evo with no straps, since the hoods on the new rickters are so slim it is very hard to have the hood get blasted off from side impact or backflops. look at all the rickters in the surf boosting big, pros, amateurs, novice, no straps.
