How bad is it?

New top end, or run it as is?

So I recently purchased a 61X/61X SN from a member down in GA. I got it home and just now started to mess with it. It has perfect 175/175 Compression with ADA 35cc domes, and a Jetmanic port job.

I noticed that when I fired it up, there was a little smoke / fluid leaking from under the coupler side base gasket, onto the intake. I pulled the cylinder, and the gasket was blown out there, and there's a noticeable ridge / evidence of a lean condition on the cylinder wall / piston.

It still has good compression, and I'll be fixing the lean condition. Should I toss a new top end on it as well, or keep running it as is until the compression starts to suffer?

Thanks
-Rob

You can see here where the gasket sealed, and where it didn't.

I hate when a perfect summer day comes up and then you cant ride your ski because of a motor problem.

Replace it now - then you wont have to worry about it later

that is absolutely nothing. put it back together and forget about it. maybe use a higher quality base gasket and make sure its torqued properly. i torque those base bolts/nuts to 35 with a snap-on torque wrench.

Polish the piston with some scotch brite pads may be hone the cylinder if you want. If the rings look good run it.
