How deep do skis sink?

Humminbirds are actually pretty decent for the price. But yeah, if you're using it strictly for the data then it's next to nothing compared to the commercial grade ones.

I'll chat around on Monday and see if there is any potential help that could use the survey experience.

My A8 has zero foam in it. I have checked.
Awesome! Leads me to believe that it might just be sunk in the mud where sonar can’t see it but I’ve been told good sonar “penetrates the first layer of mud”. Current is pretty strong down there so we will see, a guy is going out tonight to check the bigger body. Regardless there is no way it made it out into the next body of water so it’s somewhere in there. Either that or someone has one nice stolen jetski!

No luck on my end. Sorry.

Yeah you're right. That humminbird is pulsing about 80khz which will go through some mud. 30khz will go to the first hard surface.

When you went and looked at that picnic table, how squishy was the mud? I mean, if it sank right where you saw it, and I mean fast enough that it didn’t linger, would it hit the mud and stop, or is it more like floating silt and it’d just disappear into it?

Lots of floating silt with about a foot or so of mud on the bottom. The underwater river has about 2-3 really sharp bends that run way back into dock areas before it comes out underneath a bridge and I highly doubt it wouldn’t get pushed out of the current or snagged before that.. I’m talking at least a mile.. I’ll upload current maps

Yellow circle is where ski sank
Green X is where I lost the ski and the green line is the path that it phantom cruised on until it bumped that gentleman’s boat. (Couldn’t have done that if I tried a million times)
Red circles are where we’re narrowing down search as we had a good image in the bend of the current a few days ago and lots of debris washes up there.
yellow hatches are where bridge is
The dark purple on the map itself is the underwater river

GOOD GRIEF! I didn’t realize it traveled that far, around a corner, before sinking!
Yup, a almost 90* turn! Worst part is when I turned the corner I seen the bottom of the hull but I was panicking so hard It never clicked, by the time I got over there it was sunk.

Go snag a buddies ski, bring it to the site yours sank, tie a rope to it, pull off the hood and flip it over. Follow it with the leash and try to replicate what happened to your ski. Just don’t tell your buddy you borrowed his ski.

In all seriousness some type of replication my teach you something worth while.

If the ski had any neutral bouyancy, then yeah, it easily could get carried 10 miles away if it did not get snagged on something.

Unfortunately after having multiple sonar teams, dive teams, and a ROV operator look for my ski, no one can find it. I’ve sunk another easy 1500 into the search and I’m calling it quits. Really more upset over how much it’s taking the passion out of the sport for me, as lame as that is. Big thank you to everyone on the forum that has helped me with my tons of questions on this post and all my prior posts!

I'm sorry to hear the sad news. I went through something similar this year too. I understand how bad it hurts. I hope you can recover soon and your in my prayers man.
Sorry to hear that buddy. It is what it is right, take it on the chin and by mid winter I’m sure we’ll be ready to work on some other projects. Hate the idea of that ski rotting in a lake but can’t change what happened. Almost feels like a bad break up, lol!
