How did you get into standups

Like it says.

For me, I traded a totoyta front axle for 2 550s back in 2010. I had played wave race as a kid, and always liked the idea of a standup, but never really pursued it. The deal presented itself, and I was hooked. Blew 1 550 up, then sold e other for the cash to buy a 650sx. Rode that till I rode a superjet. Got a superjet and sold e 650sx to a buddy. Been hooked ever since.

Curios how others got into em. It's not a very popular thing. A least up here. Everyone thinks they are super old. I love exposing people to them. All ages.

Got a chance to ride a buddy of a buddies rebuilt 650sx... Had one a week later... Went halves on two sn and a trailer with the same buddy this spring and now I find myself looking in the used section here for am hulls. Every time I ride I wonder why the hell i didn't get into this sooner

Growing up, my parents were very frugal people, but sometime around the millennium, they started throwing cash around like crazy. It blew my mind. In 2001, my folks bought a lake house (and a brand new Chevy Silverado, a brand new pontoon boat, a brand new Triton bass boat, and all kinds of other stuff that I never would have expected them to buy.) I'd never ridden any Jet Skis before, but I'd always wanted to, so I convinced my old man to buy a pair of Seadoos. They were 1998, gold on white GTXs loaded with every feature available that year. Those ugly things would fly! The instrument console had feature where it would save the fastest recorded speed which I set at 67mph. It was later revealed to me that the speedos on those things were "generous."

Regardless, my brother and I were hooked, and he started hanging out on PWCToday in his spare time. That's where he learned about standups, and so in 2003, without ever even seeing one in person, he convinced my dad to buy a brand new Superjet. I still remember putting it in the water for the first time. I was like, "WTF, you have to get wet?"

There were no standup riders on the lake, so we had to learn to ride the hard way. We spent a lot of time swimming, sweating, and swearing, but once we finally got the hang of it, it was all we could talk about. Here was a ski that accelerated like a Corvette, could turn like a skateboard, yet required skill and strength to ride. It was a whole new ballgame, and it changed they way I had fun completely. Needless to say that summer, neither of us were particularly jazzed about waiting for a turn on the SJ, so I drove to Virginia to throw down my own cash on a 1991 SJ and a 1989 JS550. That's the best $2200 I ever spent!

Now, the Seadoos are long gone, and they have never been replaced.

I was on a baked drive during high school, when I saw a Lime Green JS440 for sale on the side of the road.

My buddy and I got out to look at it. The lady outside said call her son about it. I think it was going for $400

This is when I started to research them on the web. My best resource became eBay. About a year and a half later, I bought a modded 1985 JS550. Rode it for 3 summers, modded it more and than blew her up when the brass pickup fitting broke on the pump :(

got a New 2011 SXR in 2012 from the dealer. I'm pushing 300 hours in less than three seasons. Jet Dreams baby!

It all started innocent enough...

I wanted to fit in with the cool kids. I said "yes" when I was offered a smoke. I'm not sure which was the bigger rush, the little buzz from that first tobacco high or the thought that I might get caught. We all know that tobacco buzz is only the first time or two. I needed something that would give me that kick every time, so I started experimenting with marijuana and alcohol. It wasn't long before I was smoking meth and shooting heroin, but it turns out those "hard drugs" are just for wimps. I learned the real rush came from a little known drug called "Brap", and I had my hand on the grip of a 650sx shortly after. It was all down hill from there. It wasn't long before I had a wrench in my hand and my head in a X2 every day. Not long after that came the Superjet, and that's when I hit rock bottom. I wish I could just get back to a simple life of cocaine and bath salts, but it's too late, I'm too far gone.
