How did you get into standups

About normal for this time of year, drought or no drought. Aka plenty of water. =) Where do you normally ride?
I'm in Reno, so Boca or Stampede. But usualy go to Shasta once a year for the big camping trip, not this year. Shasta is the best lake on the west coast, in my eyes.

After watching the promo video on Youtube, I was going to buy a Seadoo 3D. I came across this forum to ask for opinion. Three days later went to Yamaha dealer and bought myself a new SJ. I had never been on stand ups before that day and didn't even know they existed..

It's funny how many people mention Wave Race 64 as their introduction to riding stand ups. Sure , I played it, but I played a lot more 007 Golden Eye. I even dreamt about Golden Eye, yet here I am, nearly 17 years later, not assassinating my friends with pistols in the basement.

Friend asked me to take his superjet over to the trailer so he didnt have to get wet. I decided that was a good time to attempt to ride it. I failed and couldnt even pull myself up to stand. Lol but I tried again a couple weeks later and was hooked.

I had a few couches growing up and dreamed of getting a Waveblaster one day. Was watching blaster videos one night and came across surf videos...i couldnt sleep all night, pretty sure I browsed Craigslist for 3 hours...it was over I had to get a stand up. Got a 440 from garage sale that needed tlc and that started it all!

Vumad, that's funny as hell! Lmao!

It all started for me around 09, a buddy bought a 650sx to add to his 95 xp. He let me ride it I guess for his amusement. I busted my a$$ for about 3 weekends learning how to turn it while on my feet on the tray.
A couple weeks later the ol 650 dropped a bearing. So he bought another 650sx while he was waiting on another motor for the other one.

The end of that summer I was making him payments for the later one he had purchased!

Then this happened!

Then that winter I had 1000$ in just a/m parts for it while I put a paint job and other mods.

Now I'm trying to get my money and credit together for an a/m hull! Brap!!!

My parents let me rent a 550 back in the mid 80's. I was hooked and wanted 1 bad but my parents would buy me 1. Saved enough dough and at 17 got to buy my 1st stand up. It was 92 and I got a 85 550. Still have that ski and have had plenty come & go since. Nothing beats riding stand ups on a hot summer day with all your riding buddies.

Rode couches for years in the surf, until I saw a free ride in pismo. I never knew what they could do on stand ups. Sold everything else and never rode a couch since.

I rode a 440 in college one weekend
20 year later, I was sick of wakeboarding and couldn't find a driver/buds to ride
So I bought a 750sx off eBay
Now my son rides the kawi and I have a heavily modded SN

For me, I had a camping trip up at buena vista lakes aka lake webb and saw my first standup. It was a 650sx the guy had and loved everything about it! We camped near the water near the jet ski section so i loved those 4 days of waking up to hear that 2 stroke braapp out of that guys 650sx! I got home from that trip and started looking for a 650sx but back in 07 08 they were about $650 bucks so i was always on craiglist looking for one and particulary an 87' because i loved the red graphics! I ended up buying a 90' SN for $400 with trailer and took a $3 fuel filter from pepboys to get it running! never in my mind would i have even thought i would own a yamaha and i knew nothing about them except for it was more expensive and better at the time. My mind was set for the 650sx but about a year later i got one anyways for $350 so i had both! and even bought a second one!
