Lol... I'll agree as bad as our "3rd world problems" are we're still fortunate... But we're #1 in one area that i know of... Military spending....

i used to live paycheck to paycheck for years. Then i decided to invest on what i like to do best. sell cars. I got my dealers license here in Texas and sell about 25 cars a month on average. No more paycheck to paycheck. People keep telling me that when i step up my game and buy higher end cars, my return will be higher. That's true to a certain extent, but most people on craigslist don't have 5k in their pocket. Most on craigslist DO have $1500 to $2500 and those are my buyers. Buy an auction car for $800. sell it for $1800. ALL DAY LONG. I'm still at my regular job though. i cant seem to take that leap of faith and sell cars full time. I'll re-evaluate at year's end and see where I'm at.

$5k is a high end car????????

$5k cars do sell. just not as quickly. keep in mind that i the cars i sell are almost always worth more than what im asking. for instance i have a 05 avalanche for sale right now. 160k miles. good running vehicle. good paint. A/C etc . it probably wont last till tomorrow. $4500. i really don't go buy KBB. i price by comparables.

interesting note. I sold my Xscream ski last august to start this business. now i could buy 2 xscream skis with cash if i wanted to. Just like others have said. its about smart investments.

Weird. I guess I am used to looking for trucks on CL where you see more of them over $20k than under $20k. Local Facebook and yardsale groups are where I see all the garbage in the $5k and under range.
I personally like cheaper vehicles for Dailey drivers. I haven't had a truck payment since 2004 and I won't always be able to get away with it, but it's nice. If you are patient and have cash you can find some good deals.

High end is a relative term i guess. Ive seen people buy a 03 impala with 225k miles on it and the look on their face and their attitude is one of much joy. almost as if they've purchased a GTR.( i like GTR's) Its just because to them, "high end" means they don't have to walk everywhere or bum rides anymore.

Maybe once I advance a little at this new company and get some pay increases I'm tempted to get a new truck. I travel almost 3k a month just to work and home and I've learned before the cheaper ones don't hold up real long doing those miles. When I was in college same commute and I went through a beater every year. Good part was I could drive it a year get back what I paid and grab another with same money. Those where just 800-1200 cars for the commute and kept my truck parked during the week. Be nice to get a tdi with 30+ mpg. Although my current truck gets 21-25 now not bad for a full size v8 gmc

$1000 a pop × 25 a month isn't enough to quit your other job? I'm in the wrong business.
