SX/SXi/SXi Pro how do you take off the guard rails?

i wanna paint my guard rails how do i take them off? my buddy told me theres rivets but i dont see any its a 94 750sx. and does anyone know the best way to paint them? thanks in advance

Yes, your buddy is wright. There are rivets that need to be drilled out on the front piece and the rear corners. The rivet heads are under those plugs that can be pryed out. The side rails are bolted on, slide your hand behind them and you should be able to feel several nuts. I think they are 8mm. As for painting them. Good luck, those take a beating and I don't think they would look too good after a ride or two. I would highly recommend turfing them. Mine turned out great and it's very easy.

yea after i posted this i figured it out and got them all painted hopefully it holds up. im gonna turf them in 2 weeks did u buy the precut kit for yours or just a roll and you cut it? also how hard is it to put foot holds in?

if ur putting in footholds, just order a sheet of the stuff, ull have enough left over to do the rails. the precut rail kits are like $45+s/h. a whole sheet of Hydro Turf is like 60....ive got a pre cut kit (black Diamond) sitting around here somewhere. bought it before i decided to do footholds. just remeber when Hydrotufing, use a heatgun/sister or wifes hairdrier to warm up the turf, it will mold 1,000,000 times better to curved surfaces.

Installing footholds is just a matter of tracing out a pattern (given with most footholds) and then cutting and scraping at foam until they fit in there. the 750's are a little trickier cause you have those storage tubes in the back. those will have to be "deleted". cut the tubes inside, grind the outside flush, and then fiberglass where they used to be on the back end of the ski. once thats done, epoxy or rivet the footholds in place., fiberglass over that . drill a small 1" hole on the top side, fill it with 2 part foam(it will expand and fill in all the voids of the missing foam u scraped out). fiberglass that 1" hole closed, and then Hydroturf it and Brapp it!

took me 2 sheets to do my tray, sides with rev holds, dash, and rails. I did screw up one side but I still think it would have taken 2 sheets. Probably depends on the holds you use but I would plan on 2..... especially if it's your first time.

Alright thanks for the info guys I appreciate it, is the hydro turf pre glued? Like do you peel off a layer from the back and glue it? Also what footholdssould I get size 12 feet

no, you must use rubber cement. Get it at ace, its called weldwood contact cement comes in a red can for 10 bucks

I like the dawson diggers, see pics in above links. They also sell stitched inserts for super lazy people like me, made turfing tons easier although if I did it again I wont use them bc turfing them isnt really that bad.

Alright I'll check them out, also on the front of my ski by the pole there is openings like vents won't water get in there if i do a sub or something?

are talking about on the hood on the left side? if so, yes water does get in there but it comes in from other places as well. Not too much of a concern. I subbed mine friggen deeep and dont have any issues. Just make sure you run a bilge and use outer wears on your filters if you put on aftermarket ones.

where can i buy a bilge? whats that thing on the motor its like a valve you pull up is it a primer switch? whats it do? and is there a on off for these things or does the battery only turn on when you start it?

thing on the motor is a purge in case you get water in the motor, you pull it and it lets the water out the bottom. Highly suggest you replace that with a billet block off plate, they are prone to leaking over time.

do some research on a bilge, a rule 500 is a good choice. some run two if they need it. Chances are you will be fine with just one. I went with a rule 500 and a rule 360 on a blowsion triple switch so I can pump out the small puddle that sits in the back and still be able to blast out alot of water if needed. You will need a switch with whatever option you do though, There are auto pumps but their a bit pricey and they tend to not be as reliable.

Look at blowsion.com, they are a bit high but have everything you could ever need for your ski and are super helpful if you call them

Aldine I'll check it out I put my ski in the pool to make sure I didn't buy a submarine haha and it went nose first and got some water threw those vents I was telling you about, you think it will let a lot threw? Btw thanks for all your help I appreciate it! I just put my rails back on looks 10 times better then before the black kills the purple can't wait till I turf it. Now it's time to build a stand

If you look a few pages back there is a post about hood mods, there are some good pics of what to do to change it to draw air from the back only. In my opinion I'd be more worried about the other projects first since it takes some time and glass work. I think it's a smaller concern than some of the other stuff that could use upgrading. I subbed mine a whole season and even did a few fountains when I first bought it with no bilge. Not suggested but it made it fine. you take in a lot of water from the sides of the hood too, about mid way down there is a raised section in the sealing area.

I used Bulldog adhesion promoter on my bumper on my 750sx. They come off real easy all you need is a 8mm wrench. Spray that bulldog a couple coats on the bumper rails and then shoot some paint on them. I used Krylon Fushion plastic paint on my rails gloss black and they turned out great! I thought HT my rails but i know that it will come off down the road and then you might have it tear on ya when hitting some waves, not to mention your screwed if you hit something without the bumpers on.
