Other How high is your idle?

Mine is set low to where it wont stay running without slight throttle in water but strong idle on trailer.. I was thinking about turning it up to cut my start ups in half but while trying to ride backwards yesterday I pinned it accidentally and the ski shot away. My lanyard was caught in a loop around the bars and the wrist strap failed sending the rest of it along with the boat in the direction a break wall. The motor died, thankfully and I just had to go for a swim.

Now I'm thinking I'll keep it low and keep the extra strain on the battery. :ugh2:

Mine is high enough to idle for a few seconds in the water. That allows me to do hood tricks where I have to let go of the throttle or if the lanyard fails like yours did.

I definitely can't get on the hood. Mine dies in a second.

A few weeks ago I gashed my leg good trying to jump to it at 3 or 4 mph. lol

i no longer do hood tricks and wear a lanyard, so i have the idle CRANKED.

keeps my bottom end hit there when i want it :woot:

I had the same bs happen to me, a few times now. Most dudes will tell you to wear a lanyard, but I swear Ive had the lanyard cause me far more problems, and potentially dangerous situations, than when I ran without one.

On my ski with a funky ss right now, I have it set to where it will sputter for a second and then die. I occasionally have to pull my shorts up, or use my throttle hand for something. Or I just like to let off to slow down and not have it die.

but in all seriousness, the "law" also requires the use of a lanyard for ski's made after a certain year.

we have cops on our lake friday - sunday (main riding time).

my lanyard is bright red and is attached to my vest.

it is VERY visible i am using one and perhaps one reason i don't get messed with? i dunno, just sayin'...

they are more concerned with idiots on sit downs and pontoon boats loaded with people.

Every where I ride I see water cops so it's required for me too. I have, well had a bright red one too so I'm sure that helps. They drove right by me the other day while riding aggressive carving up the chop and just drove on by.
