Just go the distance and cut that bitch in half and run it....

Dude..... Replace it..... Or don't and instead of having a cheap list of replacement parts, let it grenade and take out out the cylinder, head, crank, and possible case damage! Yaaaaaaaay!

I have a used, good condition, stock bore 701 piston here for 25 shipped if you are trying to get that thing going again on the cheap.

Please see post #13....
Your like 3rd in dibs line

:lmao::lmao::lmao: thank you i busted up laughing when i read that. i appreciate all the help and offers. but this piston only has an hour of run time on it, so it's basically new. i got some jb weld and am going to rebuild the edge. on the package there was a story about a guy who fixed the block of his tractor with it ,so i feel pretty confident it will work. and if something goes wrong i'm not to worried because i mostly ride solo down at the oregon coast. the waves right now are huge so i would just get pushed back to shore. plus i see a coast guard helicopter like every hour. so it's not like i'm at a huge lake or something with no one around, where i would have to swim for hours to get back to shore if it doesn't hold up.

Nice avatar, Tim. Who's that handsome fellow towing your sorry azz in?

I've worked for gov't contractors, and the phrase to follow here is: RTF (Run To Failure) :lmao:

If it is a serious question, replace it.
if you know who that guy is let me know he tried to drown me a few years back. he towed me out to the middle of the ocean then took off with my sunken ski.

I sure hope your joking? The JB weld is gonna be ugly when it goes through the crank. What broke the skirt anyway? Can't beleive I'm suggesting this, but when I was about 13 I bought a 79 KX 250 in peices for like a hundred bucks. Had a badly scored cylinder and a piston with about a 3/4 inch of skirt busted off. So I cut the skirt on the other side and matched the two, ran it that way for a couple of years till I sold it. Still is the hardest hitting bike I have ever rode, including race prepped 250's. Had no mid you were either idleing or WOT, I ended up on my butt so many times. I'm gonna try it on a beat 650 motor I have. Again not suggesting it, but if your dead set on using the old piston's it's a option.

i had a cooling issue and overheated the motor. i fixed the cooling but didn't realize the headgasket got damaged. water was leaking into that cylinder i guess that's what caused it to deteriate. it's the top part of the piston that's missing. it was right in front of the exhaust port so it looks like everything went out with minimal scoring on the cylinder wall. but i guess i could cut off the skirt too it would be less weight that way kind of like what you do to the flywheel right?

I've been running a JB'd radiator on the F-unit's copper radiator for 2 years now with no issues but I was super anal about prepping the surfaces. It should work fine on a piston, it's the rings that have all the pressure anyways isn't it?

I properly prepped and JB'd a leaky freeze plug on my race HX exhaust. It lasted 2 races and then the JB started to deteriorate and leak again.

In my opinion.... REPLACE THE PISTON!

JB weld on a moving part inside your motor is ASKING FOR A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE.

well if you cut the skirt do the other to match, if one piston the is heavier (MIGHT) hurt the power curve.. if you cut out the top ring landing you be like a race ski that only uses one ring... that will make it really fast :icon16:
