From a points/judging perspective it counts as one trick. He burnt 25% of a two minute final or 50% of a one minute qualifier on one trick. That is a lot of the reason that doing this "amazing trick" didn't win.

There's a reason why some of the Japanese riders didn't podium at world finals.... all they did were backflips. One guy did 15 flips, and a sloppy roll. Lee Stone threw down a couple flips in a row, along with the Super flip, and a bunch of HUGE flairs and rolls. After a couple flips in a row, people start to understand that you can do a backflip. So why not show them that you also know how to do other stuff?

I was at Nationals the last 2 years and saw PROs killing themselves trying to do multiple flips in a row. 2 years ago 1 PRO was throwing 5 in a row while practicing fairly easy while 2 other PROs could not get 2 in a row. Come to think of it, 3 years ago I watched Kaiser do about 50 in a row on a REV w/a 1200 in it while practicing.(insert a lil truth stretching here) My point is this-I agree more than 3 in comp-start deducting points, BUT, if you can bust 3 in a row and then move on-MAD PROPS!!!

Funny I don’t remember it happening that way. I double checked on You Tube to be sure. I thought the guy who did 15 backys rode pretty well, agreed, his routine was heavy on the flips. I was actually surprised when they gave the title to Lee Stone as I thought Fumikazu beat him. Sure Lee pulled 2 super man BF’s but the rest of his routine wasn’t so spectacular. Fumikazu did more combinations and waited until the very end of his routine to sign out with 10BF in a row. Yeah I agree the multiple backflips get monotonous but seriously how many could even do half what he’s doing? I guess we all have our opinions

the guy who made that french hull that resembled a few other hulls posted a vid up not to long ago that had someone doing like 5 surf flips back to back. Wave to wave. Now that was impressive

I feel that in order to be good you have to be rich these days :( So much for people posting up vids of trying Barrel rolls on Stock hull superjets with limited mods anymore. I remember when it was all about who had the most balls, not the most money.

I found first back flip he did impressive, only because he did it without a setup wake, after that it just got boring.

I think the issue will weed itself out.. If you don't win doing 15 flips then next year your not going to win with 20. I'm glad the judges gave it to Lee, it rewarded innovation more than execution. Above all else and what we think is the best and what they think is the best doesn't matter, it's what the judges think is best and under the current scoring system says 15 in a row isn't the best. Everybody goes to WF to win, period.

Flatwater freestyle is always going to be a $$big buck$$ genre' because thats what it takes to get 10' in the air under your own power. I'd like to see the dirt bike they would have to engineer to do a standing superflip or 17 flips in a row.. (that would be awesome btw).. In the end that's what people want to see is big air and technical combinations (which 17 flips is IMO).

I always thought it would be neat to have a sportsman class where you could only compete on modified OEM machines (basiclly a superstock class) but since the jetski is no mo that isnt really going to work.. :sad6:

im with you. i think its stupid BUT 1. the crowd did get the loudest after his 15 then any other point 2. if someone started doing flips at the last second and just kept going after time expired that would be alright with me.
