This, obviously is in reference to my WCF ski being in a watery grave at the moment.

I have been contacted via PM by one of the "staff" because I inappropriately "bashed" a For Sale thread.

Since I really don't "want" to be banned, I'll settle it in this Forum...The Supreme Court of Sinking Hulls.

I know Luke found his, (Did Jeff Curry help him get another hull?) I know about the foamless X-2 in Navarre that has never surfaced---who else has stories about sunken hulls? Steve?

Steve, are you here? I tried to answer your PM, but I got sidetracked. I did put drain plugs in about three weeks ago. To the best of my knowledge, no one ever suggested nose foam to me. I've never had one with it, but I sure as well will from now on.

Its all about the surf!
Location
Oceanside, CA
I know of two lost skis. On a super big swell here in Oceanside my brother lost a ski in the rocks on the outer wave break. While jumping waves in front of the jetti, he fell off and the ski was ripped from his hands. The next few waves pushed it into the rocks and bashed it to pieces. It only took about three waves to destroy it. We could not get to it because the surf was so big. we came back the next day when the surf was smaller and found only pieces of fiberglass stuck in the rocks. Another guy who occasionally rides surf here in Oceanside lost a ski a few years back when he sank his ski as he was coming back into the harbor from the waves. He said his hood came off and the nose foam had been removed. He searched with scuba also but that ski was never found.

So, what's your point? Are you saying that your ski sank because of something Steve did? You think someone owes you a new ski? That's what insurance is for.

Stock hulls have nose foam, so it's pretty reasonable to think that you would be able to install it in your own WCF hull, along with all the other RN parts used to make it run. You obviously know that your hull (along with nearly every RN hull) takes on water, yet you didn't do anything to seal it up. I don't care how well anyone seals their bondline or bulkhead, because the beating these hulls take will eventually break the seal, and water will get in.

My carbon hull sank and I was a man, tied myself to it with the limiter rope. Guess what, I'm still riding it. If I'd lost it there would only be myself to blame.

I am going to stick my neck out on this one. This hull started leaking since day 1. 6 months after he got it, it got weighed at the 2008 Daytona Ride. A whopping 337 lbs. I would say about the same time he started noticing water dripping out of the ride plate and intake grate screw holes...

Also, after a short period thousands of scratches started appearing. The hull was buffed with what appears to be a wire wheel and Steve used color wax to buff it and hide the scratches.

He contacted Steve several times, but the best steve would offer is bring it down to me and I will help get it painted. That is only about a 8-10 hour drive. Plus gas and expenses. Never offered to my knowledge to send some money to Chick to have him get it painted locally.

So yeah, Chick is bitter, he paid alot of money and got a crappy product an Steve never did anything about it.

Just my 2 cents.

Don't want to sound like a dik but why wouldn't the owner have refoamed and resealed the hull 2 years ago ?

I am not picking a fight so to speak, but from what I remember-Chik paid Paul Lehr and Steve good money to build a brand spankin new turn key ski
2-3 years ago and that brand spankin new ski had issues from day 1. I vaguely remember something about throttle cable adjustment, exhaust hose getting a hole in it almost immediatley from the carbs rubbing hose, and then on and on and on. I can understand Chik's frustration. IF I paid for a complete brand new turn key ski I would hope for / expect perfection from day 1. Just my 2 cents.

Over the years I have learned that if you want it perfect-do it your dam self. At this point in my life I would not allow ANYONE to change a spark plug on my ski much less do anything else to it because I am anal about my ski.

Yes, I did offer to paint the ski for Chick because of a gelcoat issue . Now, I don't mind taking care or helping out my customers with any problems they may have , but when somebody becomes a dick and decides to bash my products to get some kind of money back (the same he did to Paul Lehr), then your on your own!
He has had the hull Since 2006 (based on the invoice date) and has passed on any offers that I have put out for him.
I know he wants to blame somebody for his loss but he should really focus his attention to the idiots that let his ski sink!
You know that I refrained from commenting on your thread when I saw your "waterlogged factory" decal on your hood...that just shows you the kind of person you are!

hey Steve, you quoted me and it looks like you are accusing me of putting a "Waterlogged Factory" decal on my hood. Please edit or revise.

Back to original topic.

I can think of 3 that have been totally lost.

The X2
Pair-a-dice's SJ
Jimmy Pelicano (SP!) lost a SJ at Niagra.

I know there are others, but not sure who elses.

Not counting skywalkers since he found his.

Steve---you never offered anything more to me than a half price paint job if I drove down to Dania from here, as Harrison said a 8 to ten hour drive minimum. When I discussed the issues with you, you wanted to lay the blame on Paul Lehr for improper assembly techniques. And now your accusing me of placing blame! You're damned right I am!

The Waterlogged sticker was a joke. I've been busting your balls in a friendly manner for years---and that's all that sticker was supposed to be doing. However, since the ski is gone forever, it's an even more appropriate sticker.

As Harrison and Gil have said, I have had problems from day one. From improperly installed inserts, to leaks from the intake grate, ride plate, and exhaust outlet areas, not to mention the gel coat. You have never offered any remotely fair offer to fix and now I don't even have one ski to ride.

I've swamped a Wamilton's prepped OEM ski---it never sank completely. I've swamped a lightweight Wamilton's ski---it never sank!!! Harrison has my old OEM hull and installed your footholds in it and found that the foam was still dry---Wamilton's knows how to properly seal a ski from my experience and you do not. Just my opinion.

Am I asking you for a turn-key ski? Have I asked you for anything? Let's just put it this way, if I owned WCF and something like this happened to one of MY customers, I would be trying to figure out a way to help my customer out. When I spoke with you on Monday morning of last week, your attitude was pretty lame, kinda' like "oh well" and I knew right then and there that you could care less about your customers, including me who you once considered a friend. I have had offers from people here to help me out and NOTHING from you whatsoever.

That is all for now---getting ready to go to Shipwreck Island Waterpark with my girls.

Steve, it's really up to you, bro. If you want to at least make an effort to correct this situation for me I'll listen to you. If not, the flogging will continue until my morale improves.

Besides the two that John (227) mentioned.

We lost one at a contest in Brazil two years ago, there was a little argument about there being nose foam in it or not...I think probably not.

Mac, lost the one years ago in the AMCF video shoot in Oceanside that we later found washed up on the beach there.

Sean Workman lost one off Point Loma 7 or so years ago that eventually washed up on the strand.

For me one of the most important things to know about a hull is if it has positive floatation. So far the only boat I have had where I did not "need" it to have positive flotation is my latest boat. Somehow I never did sink this one...

So, why weren't you crying for a new hull for the last 3 years? Now you lose it, and you want it replaced?!? Here's a solution. Buy another hull, and Steve will paint it.

At some point Chick gave up. He did try to get something resolved. At some point you just have to cut your losses. Do to other factors, his hull, Ski, Hobbies have had to take a back burner to life.
And as Nick said, "Harsh".

Guys n gals, a period of time ago I purchased a product that was 'turn key' and it ended up not being 'turn key' as I thought it would be. I spent alot of time going a slightly different approach than Chik did and now I am really happy I did. it was this very business transaction that finally taught my old azz some patience and today I am thankful for it. Believe me-I can totally relate to why Chik went the direction he did-if I would have had the cash on hand, I would have done the same thing Chik did, good news is I had to work with what I had and now have alot more knowledge because of it.

Bottom line is I totally understand Chik's frustration that has been building for a long long time. People handle situations differently and right now Chik is mad as hell.
Who can blame him?
Steve is mad as hell at the way CHik is handling this.
Who can blame him?
These two will work it out one way or another and unless you have something constructive to say, you need to keep it to yourself. Frienships are going straight to hell right now and the freindships don't need us driving the hell train!!!
