How much $ to build an SN hull into a running ski?

I'm a bit new to standup ski's and not completly familiar with what all would be needed to turn a hull into a running ski.

I've found a SN SJ hull that comes with the pole, nose, hood, steering controls etc (no cable) - I'd like to put a stock 62T take out motor into the hull and without using any other aftermarkets (pipes, Ign, heads etc) just Yamaha parts or whatever is a necessity, how much would I be looking at to finish this ski?

Thanks for the help!

Also if anyone has a link on HOW TO put the ski back togather it would be extrememly help - otherwise I'll just have to figure it out

Unless you want to go out and build a monster with custom engine, ignition, etc., it would be much much more cost effective to buy a complete ski. If the hull is free, you may be able to only pay the same as a complete ski and you'd know how everything goes together after some confusion I would imagine. Figure a complete running stock SN will run around $800-$1500 depending on where you are and condition. A good used 62t/61x engine will easily cost $600+ plus shipping. Then you still need the ebox ($100), waterbox ($25), hoses (?), coupler ($100), pipe (?), gas tank ($50), fuel lines, and carb. Plus depending on what came with the engine, you may need a stator, flywheel, and intake. You get the idea...

Anyway you look at it, piecing a ski together will be a huge headache and will cost you at least twice as much. Every piece doesn't seem too bad but it will nickel and dime you to death.

always more than you think and more than you can estimate. The little fasteners and small odds and ends can add up to several hundred. Just get a running ski.

This is kind of what I was expecting, I'm not too familiar with ski's, but I know my way around cars very well and it's always the little things you don't think about that end up breaking the budget!

This is exactly what happened when I did my 550/650 conversion ski. Everything was replaced or rebuilt from front to back. After adding up all the money I spend I could of easily bought a brand new ski.

I built my 07 up from a bare hull and was amazed at how fast the hardware added up. My only regret was sourcing parts from multiple sellers. I got killed on shipping.

My advice to you is that once you know what you will need, PM Jetmaniac, he has a shop absolutely stuffed full of every nut, bolt, wire, hose, fitting, etc you will need to get your ski completed. He will put together a proper package with everything you will need for a very fair price and will save you from scrounging parts all over and paying extra for shipping on every part.

Best selection, price and service around for this type of project and his customer service is second to none.

P.S. Here is a link to a page to download full service manuals and other useful manuals for your ski.

So I've found a completly stock and running 90' SJ for $500, if I pick this up and swap all the parts into the other hull, and use the 62T motor; any ideas what the cost's would be on top of the hull, runnning ski for parts, and motor?

Basiclly what would the conversion cost other than the motor be to swap a 62T into a 90' SJ?

Thanks again for the help!!!

I've got more dive gear than I care to admit - but if you want to dive, you can rent most gear and enjoy a day of diving at any tropical destination in the world.

try that with a superjet.

on top of that, jetskiing is far more expensive.

You'll need to make sure the stator and flywheel are matching. You can use the stator from the 650, but you'll have to use the flywheel from the 650 as well.

You'll need to rejet your carb. Your electronics, starter, bendix, and carb will swap onto a 62t engine. Not sure on the exhaust????

i'd suggest just start riding the ski while its up and running first...there is no point of taking a running ski and start screwing with it to just move up to a stock 62t. with the money that it'll cost for you to do that, you can just buy a cheap pipe or head and it'll be the same imo.

just my .02....i'm no mechanic
