How NOT to ride surf...

Love the vids!!

So, I only ride on the lake, I have a pretty dumb question. Lots of times when I come off hard, I get lllllllaunched off my ski and have to swim quite a few yards to retrieve it. If that happens in the surf is my ski gonna float away before I can get to it?? lol

I really want to ride at wave daze but I'm still kind of a newb, I'm afraid I will be getting in the way most of the time.

Ok, MM2stroke, here's the deal: don't let go. First time in waves was soon after I started on a standup, and just before a hurricane hit Daytona area. Just don't let go. Let me repeat, don't let go. Sure, you'll end up hearing the "bang bang bang" of a ski hitting your head (hopefully with a helmet... I used a bicycle helmet and it was fine), but again, don't let go. Seriously. And either use a lanyard kill switch or, if you're on a lanyardless 650sx like I was, turn your idle down so it dies. Nothing like bobbing around in the waves looking for your circling ski, only to see it on the rare occasions you're at the top of a swell, then next time seeing it in the complete opposite direction after you've just swam your ass off to get to that past location. Really. But hey, it IS fun.

Maybe I'll just tie it to my leg so it can drag me out to the great blue yonder with it, LOL. Thanks for the feedback!

After 2 treks to Daytona, this vid seems to recap my experience.I realize this is a wreck/crash vid, not including the ripping the OP did. The surf learning curve seems very steep, while the group I ride flat with seems very comfortable in surf. While they are out past the break going big, I'm still fighting white water and getting my a$$ handed to me. But I will continue until I am dead, or enjoying it, whichever happens first. When I am there, I am in awe of the sheer talent I witness. Surf/flat is two COMPLETELY DIFFERENT worlds. Surf skills are costly to acquire IMHO.:dead1:

LOL, I so remember those days and Toby will NEVER let me forget. PC Beach on a storm weekend. I felt like I had been hit by a truck after day one. Damn good thing mine never made video LOL.

RULE #1, vertical to wave is better than horizontal when a newB. # 2, chest over bars for more control (like MX racing) #3, Gas it when in doubt but only if you utilize #2 .

Just trying to help a little.

I appreciate it, as YOU are one of the group that I mentioned that is comfortable in surf. I understand that Y'all have MUCH more time in surf than I, but I will get there.

Dude, keep in mind my first ride in surf was 10 years ago or more. Go with us more and you will have it down in no time. We were going 4 times a year back then and splitting rooms & gas between like 8 of us so it was cheap and fun as hell. we need to get that back up and going. I still go prolly 4 times a year but cant get a group together like we used to, usually just me an MFR rolling to OB for some storm waves.
