Thanks for any replys

I always thought someone should make a handhold insert for the fuel area. Easy bolt on mod that's a functional and a clean way to delete the fuel filler.

I like the bolt on filler idea best, that way once you realize how much of a PITA internal fill actually is, you can always go back. :bigok:

True dat, first time you dump fuel in your hull you will be hating internal fill.

Looks cool, just dont get in a hurry durring fill up and you will be ok.

I pop my hood each and every time I fill up anyway because I don't like to over fill. That and having a spring loaded fill valve on the jug really helps control the fuel flow. Me spilling fuel is so seldom I can just about call it never.

But yes, if spilling fuel is a regular occurrence for you, keep the external fill.

It def does look alot cleaner but it comes at too high a price for me. I actually have both on my Matrix. I started with internal fill as there was no option for external at the time and later added a billet external filler from Thrust...best of both worlds...in billet!

IMO, if you just want to clean up the front of your ski, look at the Thrust product. It will clean up the nose of your ski as well as retain all the benefits of external fill and may actually be cheaper in the long run.

Or just seal up your filler neck from the inside once you go internal fill and use the filler neck as a waterproof compartment

i looked at the thrust product , and it looks amazing. But I have a internal fuel tank already. I just looked thru a bunch of builds and saw matt had his external cap and filler deleted. It looks great. But he didnt put how he did it

My home away from home.
My ski came with internal fill, but a crap glass job, where the cap was. I reglassed it for this season.

I put a sanding wheel on my angle grinder and feathered back the edges on the outside and inside.
Then taped from the inside, glassed over that twice from the top with two layers of 6 oz.
Then foamed over that and sanded / shaped.
Then put 4 layers of 6 oz over the top, sanded and painted it. Works like a peach!

i can tell you what not to do... i got a blowsion filler peice and then used filler then had it painted.. the paint reacted with filler peice or filler im not sure and bubbled and cracked three months later

i think smurf is running the wamilton filler and it looks sharp.. i like that is simple and bolt in

Here's what i did. i had a round piece of 1/8 alum plate cut, then I layed the gas filler flange on it and marked the 6 holes, drilled them, then i polished it real quick. I used stainless steel "cap" type Allen screws that hold down side rails on YAM sit downs. Was cheap, easy and looks good IMO. i think it looks like the chrome/polished alum aftermarket gas cap covers that peeps put on their trucks/cars...
