So I have a scion XD. Recently graduated college and I moved down to FL from the northeast. Only issue is I don't have any way to haul my ski. Only car I have is a scion. I was thinking of maybe putting a rinkydink tow hitch on it and getting a small 1 ski trailer. The car isn't tow rated though so I don't want to chew the transmission up. Any other options? I don't think I can stuff it in the hatchback.

I've hauled my ski with a small single trailer and a 2002 Civic SI, a 1989 Volvo 240, and a 2009 Honda fit. I never had a problem, all of my cars were manual and I didn't think I put much stress on the transmission. I'd say it can be done but many will disagree. Careful with the ramp launch from, but again I never had a problem getting the ski in or out of the water. Use common sense, if you have an auto transmission and find it pecking for the right gear when towing or you feel it slipping too much coming up the ramp, maybe don't keep using that vehicle. I say give it a go, take it easy at first, have a back up to get you out of the water and see what happens. Good luck!
That's what I was thinking newbee, but manual and stuff online says not to tow with it. Worst case scenario I'll have 600 pounds with the trailer on the back and me driving, so 800 total, and it's rated for 1000 pounds of cargo. I just don't want to bork my car because it's super reliable and it should be able to last me quite a few more years.

Most likely has a 1200-1500lb tow limit. I towed a b1 and sj behind my 2008 civic. If you are worried about it get a transmission cooler.

I think you'll be fine. Monitor your transmission temperatures that it doesn't go above 200F. I think you can rent a scan tool from Autozone. If it goes over 200F then you should install a transmission cooler. A quick search shows you can find a small cooler for $40.
