Super Jet how to make a start switch ?

I want to eliminate my start switch on my super jet from the stock one to a dash mounted switch start. reason being because i keep having problems with the stock unit and have replaced it several times. so my question is... can i put a switch on the dash while retaining the lanyard safety and stop switch on the bar? if so which to wires leading to the normal start/stop do i need to reroute to the "dash switch"? Im not sure if this makes sense to anyone :thinking:lol but if it does please chime in to help me out.

thank you

I forgot!
Matt, you could buy an ATV tether and find a water proof switch for the start button. the black and white are the kill wires and the red and brown trip the relay to turn the ski over. I think it would be easier and safer to buy yourself a brand new start stop switch from yamaha and be done with it.

any good places to buy a new oem start switch? ive replaced it a few times but with used ones. Or better yet a more bullet proof aftermarket start/stop made for stand up's?

Not sure off the top of my head if the circuitry would work out but I have all the pieces to build you a plug and play switch.

Start with a miltary grade momentary contact toggle switch, solder in some wires, encase it in epoxy for a truly waterproof unit and finish off the wires with an oem connector that would plug right in to the white lead off the ebox.

What happens when the stop button fails though. Probably best to keep it simple and oem or go with the JSS rebuild.

Yes it does suck. Off all the trick parts we put on our skis it all comes down to the little green button.

X2, One of the first mods I do to every one of my skis is yank the entire electrical system and send to JSS. Coil, stator, battery cables and Start/stop assembly.

Best money spent and it saves so much time down the road troubleshooting things when you can all but rule out any electrical gremlins and focus on what's left.

Coil: $65/exchange
stator: $120 with core
Battery Cables: $50/set
Start/Stop: $69 with core
Total:$304
Piece of mind: Priceless!

FWIW, I sent one in to JSS this year and wasn't happy with it. Where to start.. Green start button fell out within a couple rides, lanyard button in the inside sticks and you had to attach it and pull the lanyard multiple times to start the ski for the first time each day or just separate the top from bottom and start it that way. Then, the last ride I took the ski kept shutting off for no reason. Unhooked the kill switch circuit completely, starts every time now with now shutting off. You can get a brand new OEM SS switch from yamaha for $110. IMO, don't waste your time/money on a reconditioned unit.

Did you contact John about the issue? I am sure he would take care of any issues you may be having.

I did not. I'm sure he would take care of it by either repairing or replacing with another refurb, I just didn't have the time/patience to deal with it. I should have done it right the first time. Nothing against JSS, just wanted to share my experience and possibly save someone some time and frustration. I have multiple other JSS items that I am very pleased with and am still running. Coil, battery cables, stator etc.
Also, I wouldn't call someone months later with problems. I should have called immediately upon receiving the switch and told him what was up. I just took it as a lesson learned and ran it.
My JSS switch rebuild cost me $75 plus my original switch and shipping, and brand new is $108. I see OEM switches still working on 10 year old boats. If I can get 4-5 seasons out of a brand new one that's money well spent IMO.
Also it's worth mentioning that my refurb'd switch looked rough as hell. That's to be expected though with anything refurbed so I wouldn't complain. For the price difference I would rather have the minty new switch on my new ski than one that obviously looks 10 years old with new wires.
