how to make footprint with hydroturf?

Im installing footholds and turf this month. I see some jetskis with a footprint mold on the floor tray and I was thinking about doing that.

I was just going to use a Blowsion pre cut turf kit, and buy an additional 9mm Plush paddding and then trace out a foot and place it ontop of the pad that is included in the kit. and give the edge a 45degree angle somehow.

is this all people are doing to create those foot imprints?

Easiest way is to use multiple layers of padding. So bottom will cover the whole tray and top is precut to that pattern and glued on top. Or whatever variation of padding layers you choose. Then you sand down the square edge to blend as you see fit and cover over with turf.

You could do in one piece padding 1", etc but more difficult sanding and getting even. If you have a router and know what you're doing it's quite easy though.

for whatever reason i didnt think about sanding the edges to blend them. so i think id be set now. and glueing the two pads together wont cause any issues later down the road? im buying a pint of glue from blowsion. Im hoping that will be enough. And i was thinking about buying extra turf to do the bumpers. do people usually turf over the bumpers or take them off?

No issues glueing. Else you can have stretch, slide, and bubble action going on. Get DAP weldwood in red can from your local hardware store not blowsion. You can use a razor or hot knife to cut the initial 45* then sand to save time. Sanding will give the cleaner finish look. Depending on what padding material you get you'll see what sanding method works best. I've always used a angle die grinder with sandpaper roloc and choked down psi appropriately.

For bumpers remove the stock ones and turf the rails directly. Bevel the bottom edge good so water doesn't peel it down the line.

2-3 coats on each piece (ski/pad;pad/turf,etc) before sticking. Wait until dry and tacky to apply each coat and lay. Use a rubber mallet to bang out air bubbles and get stuck good. Heat gun to stretch and bend turf and a beer for the wait time and you should be all set.

okay cool. Dap welwood Contact Cement? it looks like its pretty cheap, but blowsions is only 16$ for a quart and the description seams like its pretty good stuff. But if you have experience id trust your opinion. And do you have any input on hydroturf kits vs buying a roll and doing your own cuts. And im doing Digger footholds. should be okay right?

I've used both dap and blow glue, they both work great. I alway just buy b-stock turf in rolls and cut to fit. If they have pre-cut for the holds you want, then you could go that route, but it'll cost you a little more.

As for footholds, read some reviews, I'm not up on whats the hot fixed holds are right now, I have kicks in about 30 different holds over the years, I can say there are some I love and some I hate. I've become spoiled to adjustable holds, that's what I prefer.

I actually am looking more at the "Kickers" now, i think thats what ill try. But do you have any experience in Footstraps for a forward foot? and are those something youd want to install before u start turfing?

Yes I have. I prefer a front foothold. As for a foot strap install, depends on what kind of insert you use, but would mostly likely be best to install them prior to turfing.

i was also thinking about just cutting a big hole, or section out of the side, and turf it, and place a foot strap in there. Theres a video of a guy in the marshs on this forum's homepage , and it seamed kinda simple to do, and simple to turf. is that a pretty common thing to do as well?

Blows ion kickers suck, unless they've actually changed them over the years.

If you're glassing in holds you want something bigger and meant to be used with padding like tom21's or there's a few others. Then you pad the tray and tops of holds to fit your need before turfing. With the kickers you don't have much room to start with.

IMO if you're glassing in holds go with a "pancake pete" front foothold like mentioned above and knock out all at once. Straps can be tough as you're locked into one position and you need to know exactly where to put them in the first place.

Turfing wise it's better value to buy sheets of "b" stock and cut yourself. For a complete ski plus rails you will need 2 sheets.

I think i found a few pics of Toms adjustable footholds and those look great! I should be able to cut out and glass them into my Kawasaki 750sxi? Is the only channel to buy those from his website? I see hurricane holds too. Are there anything else youd recomend under the 300$ range. I dont mind spending that price if it gets me a good setup. I specifically like the idea of ripping off most the side tray making it thinner and to get more surface area and then having a snug comfortable food locking mechanism of some kind

@TOBY on the X here makes a great set of footholds.l have installed several different brands over the years and like Toby's and @tom21 footholds.Both good prices and trusted sellers.
I always have to ask why someone wants less padding under your feet when making a foothold install? lf anything you want more.More "cushion to the pushin" you know! lf anything leave the same level of pad and add a strip of thick pad in an outline around the back of your foot.
And what @Yami-Rider was telling you is correct,buy the Dap Weldwood and don't Blowsion all your money away!
Check some of my builds out and look at how l do my turf.Some of my footholds are a bit large but you'll get some ideas off of it

Buy dap weldwood cement. Its like rubber cement, you can get it at walmart. Pretty sure its what blowsion will send you and its 5.98 a quart, no shipping. Its what everyone uses to put down turf. Blowsion is great but expect to pay extra for the privilege of buying from them.

Ya, im really excited to get Toms Footholds, i went to his website and asked for a set for my 750sxi. Im just waiting for a response back. Unless i can get them a different way. I guess that also means i gotta buy a roll of turf rather that a precut kit. Do i turf the walls and the actual foot pad of Toms footholds? and hopefully its pretty easy. When i installed a Digger foothold it was a pain in the ass to turf even with a kit.

Im also seeing ZERO pictures on the internet - or anyone with a kawasaki 750sx doing these type of holds =[ Do you think id be able to Modify the Superjet hurricane holds, or Toms holds for that matter? im worried ill get too deep into it and realise nothing fits properly

Tom21 big footholds with 26mm plush pad top and bottom(size 9 feet and wrestling shoes and I had two layers of turf on top to make them tight) . Keep it simple. Kick in and you're locked for whatever you wanna do. That's what I ran on my squarenose. Awesome footholds.
Don't buy anything from Blowsion. Very over priced for supplies.

Tom21 doesn't make his adjustable footholds anymore. Adjustable footholds aren't worth it on a 750 unless you plan on keeping it forever anyways. Plus they take a lot more effort to install. Some of the best AM hulls don't come with adjustable footholds, so it's not a necessity.
