went to assemble motor......on my BRAND NEW sbt crank found that the STOCK locater pins on teh cases are TOO LONG for the sbt bearing locator holes....

most specifically on the PTO bearing...however, the very center bearing was too long as well....

Ewok and i worked about 3-4 hours with just trying to get the crank mounted properly in THREE different sets of cases.......

so, after we stared at each other for awhile....we figured that this at least was the reason that the rear seals blew out when we assebled this motor 3 weeks ago...

E and motosurfer packed up at 4am this mornign to head to sbt....

I have pix and will upload soon..........

talked to motosurfer this morning....SBT's respnonse were that all or most are like that, and that all or most of the cases will require the locator pins to be shaved..... :bs2:

we did it...but I dont think im cool with that..

:261:

oh, we also had numerous yami cranks lying around which ALL dropped into the cases like butta

you should have seen E

and where's the drama...all that's there are facts!

those locator pins arent bottomed out in the cases, they can be pressed in further if need be.i know that you know this.did you guys try?

hmm, I actually DIDNT know this..........intersting..........

E ground down the pin on the x cases...but that will not become a regular practice....

the OE holes on the bearings are SOO much deeper....you could see that even before we mic'd it..

here's the pix........

look at the tip of the screwdriver.........there is at least .5mm more depth in the OE crank......

the sbt crank is the one with the yamabond on it....

sbt crank problem!!!

Just following up on motor status! The center bearing divider, or fropper???as sbt calls it(new term to me?)was .0035 bigger than the bearing was. Know wonder why the crank wasn't going into cases all the way. Didn't we learn this in kindergarden, The square peg does not fit the round hole!!!Waiting to see what happens??E.

Interesting. I've never of such an issue before. I guess you can't chuck it up in a lathe, huh?

Doug

you could, if you had the proper equipment to tear down a crank.....

it blows my (our whole crew's) mind....

you can set the crank into the cases.....see that there is a visible gap between the locater pins and bearings....

then the crank will actually rock (teeter totter) back and forth because the casting is too big......

we sent the cases and crank to sbt (on their dime).....they told us the tech's had "no problems putting them together"

:bs2:

Ewok is a factory cert yami watercraft mechanic, ducati mechanic, AMI grad etc...

he bores all of our motors (many of them running 200+ hours)....and they are telling him that it is an assembly error :bs2: :bs2: :bs2: :bs2:

all this AFTER they acutally got in the car, left at 4am and WENT to sbt the week before last with the cases, sbt crank, yami crank......

I used to defend sbt to the fact that many who have never tried their products would bash them...

we have given them a fair shake.......and they are blind (aka ignoring) to our efforts

Idok in under motosurfer:

update...just got the cases and crank back from sbt...

they torqued them together with visible gap betweena couple of places in the case..

the cases are under stress.......we showed it to E's father (Phd of metallurgy who specializes in 'wing design' for NASA) who stated that there is an obvious stress to the cases....(in best swiss accent)

according to SBT..nothing is wrong with any of the parts as noone in St. Augustine knows how to build a motor (including the certified professional motor builders  )

Will be calling first thing in the AM to discuss resolution....So, this should be an excellent chance for SBT to shine in their customer service.

We will see
