Cool article - I still don't understand why 4 stroke stand up is not going to exist, just because it wont carry the nostalgia? Don't get me wrong, I am thankful for the 2-stork SJ, but they should build one of each.

Ya ya, we will get the same sales #'s excuse

It would be cool to see the prototypes they had.

There is a reason for the nostalgia...check the part of the article where scott talks about their swamped ski races where they'd sink a ski on purpose and see who can get it running fastest. Everyone on this board has probably had it happen to them or at least seen it done. You can't do that with a 4 stroke...

Just the other day I watched a guy (who i don't even think is on this board) have his ski running in 15 minutes after completely losing the hood. He pushed it in to the beach, dumped the water, towed in to the ramps, grabbed a wrench, plugs out, thumb on a hole, crank crank crank, thumb on other hole and crank crank crank. Throw plugs in...wont start. Take em out and clean them up. Crank some more. Battery is dying...grab some cables and bring another superjet in to hook up to. Eventually the ski starts. He rips it wide open for 20 minutes. Just as good as before.

The very first time I was on my superjet (besides the test ride) I forgot to turn on my bilge. I'm trying to ride this boat wake and every time I turn I fall and lose the ski. 10 minutes later my ski wont start..."wtf is wrong?" I think for a minute floating as the boat i'm following circles me. I realize my bilge isn't on. Water pumps out of my ski for a full 5 minutes! Crank crank crank...push the plunger twice, crank crank crank, push the plunger, ad nauseam. My battery is starting to weaken. Prime the carb one last time as my battery is on its last legs....VROOOOOM the water is finally out and I'm on my way like it didint happen.

It's tooooo common for what we do to afford to completely tear apart a 4 stroke when water gets in...I know it would end my season and I know for sure it would happen.

Eff the epa. They need something to do and a small market like ours is super easy to attack. I have very strong opinions on regulating pollution. I think there is a big difference between regulating how a huge manufacturing plant deals with waste in to water and the exhaust of a 2 stroke watercraft that most owners use about once a week. There is no evidence of a jet ski or an old aluminum boat with a 2 stroke outboard screwing over the fishies. It's pretty f***ing ignorant to have the audacity to think our planet is THAT sensitive to changes in its ecosystem. human engineering efforts to better life is just as natural as any other animal trying to survive. The hippy movement really screwed us.

I wouldn't ride a four stroke jetski.. The whole reason i started riding skis cause my uncles piped 550 sounded like a two stroke dirt bike.. and i just had to Braap Around annoying the folks on shore.. A four stroke would take all the funn out.. Might as well ride quads...
How well would a four stroke with a supercharger do on bottom end??

I would ride a four stroke standup all day long, I wouldn't get rid of my current ski for it but if one of the OEMs came out with an affordable one, I would pick one up. If I had the spare cash I would be putting a Spark motor in an SXR right now.

If i can't spend 3/4 of the my time riding underwater with my ski i wouldn't be having funn..
Unless i had 30k invested into a ski that flipped.

For anything other than flat water racing, a 4 stroke stand up is not only a bad idea, it's a move in the wrong direction. The success of 4 strokes in MX bikes doesn't apply here because Water craft and MX bikes are completely different. Regardless I would support the production of a 4 stroke standup as long as 2 strokes were still produced also. I don't see why this can't happen now, especially if 2 strokes can be grandfathered in under some "Old Technology" clause.

SO why can't we have both?

The real reason is because the tree hugging , global warming crack pots really just want us gone- completely. They are using the EPA as muscle to get their agenda pushed across, baby step by baby step. Even if we went 4 stroke to please them that would only appease them temporarily, They won't stop until were gone, plain and simple. The thing that really scares me is that their plan is working.

You want to protect our sport? Pay attention to who and what Political party you vote for. Stop watching Dancing with the stars and inform yourself on what's really going on and who's behind it. Unfortunately when it comes to politics its always the lesser of two evils, however it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out which candidates are for tighter EPA regulations and who is more supportive of our cause.

Or yamaha could use one of there direct injection two stroke engines..

From 2010
Yamaha builds two-stroke outboards with High-Pressure Direct Injection (HPDI). The 200 HPDI engine has twin, high-speed fuel pumps that pressurize the gas up to 1,000 psi, and then inject the fuel after the exhaust ports are closed. The system is similar to injection systems on diesel engines.

I think you'd break your hip trying to leg drag a gp ski

I rode a Bullet with a hot triple in it right after leg draggin all over on a limited SXR, it was hard just to hang on! The on off throttle was so extreme, if you didn't stay on it hot in a long corner you'd over compensate with your weight to far forward, and then you fall on your face on the outside of the turn.... I did that. You don't realize how fast you slow down at high speeds (60+), compared to 30-45 range I ride in. (Stock SXR)

I think leg draggin a GP would be a negative for racing. They're point and click, go machines.

I heard that motor blew up three times that summer, the guy kept it hot for racing. Not my cup of tea, I enjoy just free riding. The limited was perfect. I'm going that route with a head and lightened flywheel.
