I am not Happy-SOB

Ok,

I never expected to have a problem this soon after purchasing my FX1. Went out today. Started up fine in the beginning. Ride it around, let my mom, and brother ride it...Then I get on, so it was on and off alot. One time I tried to start it, it just buzzed or something...I sat 3 minutes. Tried it again, and it fires off....ride around...dont fall off....get back, and now its clicking or popping whenever I press the start button....So what am I looking at here? Anyone near me wanna help me out? No one even rode it hard....********, this is :bs2: :banghead: :bad3: :17:

Yea, she rode if even with her bad back....anyways. How do I check? I am new to all of this, and wtf is a relay? I thought that this was a common problem? how expensive to fix would either one of these be?

First check all your connections and make sure they are good and not corroded real bad.

Then, since you said its clicking and buzzing I'm guessing there is power getting to the starter and its just not turning. You can use a piece of wire to try to run the starter directly off the battery. If it turns over the problem is either in the relay or the start stop switch. If it doesnt turn over the problem is the starter

Ok, should I take the plugs out and try it like that? Their is no way in hell it should be hydrolocked but should I check that before trying to turn it over? have you run the wire and diagnosed like that before? What gauge? Do I just run it from the Positive? I am going to go look at the starter now to see where to attach it.

I think I see the damn starter, but I cant see where the wire would hool up too it?The starter is under the stock exhaust isnt it?

There is a wire going into your starter. Run a wire directly from your starter to your battery.

First, make sure your battery cables are tight... then try this.

Ok, so this is the first step....I kindof want to take the plugs out and leave them out while I am trying to turn it over..just in case something sloshed into the carb...I will try this tonight....Let me know if its ok to take the plugs out, I ll have at it and give everyone the results.

I live in North Louisiana, but if I cant figure this out myself...I would take a trip and possibly pay someone to help me....I trust anyone here more then my local shop...and I ment to get back to you on the turf man, I understand completely.

if you think you got water in the cylinders, absolutely take the plugs out and get thing cranking to get the water out asap. Dont crank it with the plugs in if there is water in there.

On the starter there is a small bolt with a wire going to it. That is the lead for the starter. Thats where you want to connect the wire to and the other end to the positive terminal on the battery. There are two bolts that hold the starter in place and there is a wire that goes to one of those bolts. That is the ground wire.

If there is water in the cylinders make sure you get it out asap before serious damage starts incurring.

Well, I dont think that there is water in them, I just want to be positive, because this is how carefull I am....I am going to run the wire now, and see what happens....stay tuned.

********, I just looked at the stater, how the hell do I get to it? I cant see anything but the geared end. This is going to be a bitch I can tell....

Stupid question. Do you KNOW it is a good battery? Old shot batteries can click but not have enough to do anything else.

Jump it from a car and see what happens.

If you do pull the plugs make sure you leave them in the caps and let the energy go somewhere. I have fried out CDI's from forgetting to do this.:banghead:

Well, I may have already fried the cdi. Thats the kind of info I needed. If it doesnt click at all anymore, does that mean the cdi is gone?

Ok, does any one have a used CDI, Starter, and or anything else I might need to replace to fix this problem? I just think I am better off getting everything I need, then selling what I dont use.

No.

Back up, slow down, it's either a bad wiring connection, bad starter solenoid (inside electrical box), bad battery, or bad starter.

Here's how I'd go.

1. verify battery is good, should be ~12.7 volts fully charged.

2. open electrical box, use a screwdriver to jump across the posts on the starter solenoid. This bypasses the solenoid, if it cranks, then your problem is at the solenoid.

3. check cable to the starter - this requires removing the exhaust to get to it.

4. check starter itself

Now, you need to start doing the troubleshooting in a logical manner, not just assuming stuff is bad.
