I dont know what happened

Just started my first ride of the day last Saturday and the ski was acting like it was running out of fuel. (Which it wasn't obviously being the first ride of the day). Started to head back to the shore and it died and would not start back up at all. No spark but cranked nice. Changed the coil, no luck... changed the CDI, no luck... so last thing to check would be the stator. Pulled the flywheel cover and all I could smell was burning metal.

I did not know what mess the flywheel was hiding until I pulled it.

The stator some how broke, bent the bolts and ripped one of them clean out of the case... threads and all. Destroyed my lightened flywheel as well.

So I have no clue how this happened or how to fix it. The engine has given me zero problems for 2 years and runs.. well ran awesome up until that point.

The stator and bendix were new at the engine build. The flywheel is only damaged on one end of the magnets.

Contact jetmaniac you can send it to us and we can repair the stator mounts helicoil the holes and re epoxy the cases. Also be a good time to freshen it up as it will need to be completely disassembled to repair it.

Here is a close up picture. There is a little bit of thread left towards the back. Based on all the metal shavings I dont see how the ski even ran when it did and how it even cranked.

I had this also happen to me. Small bolt came out on one of the coils on the stator, ruined my mint RAD wheel, pulled the stator screws out. needless to say my stator is now fastened with larger screws
I use pan head Allen bolts that I can crank down tight with loc-tite too.

That is some carnage! One or both stator screws probably loosened or threads pulled out of one side. Judging by the amount of wear on the stator plate and metal shavings all over the place it sure looks like this was loose and banging around for awhile.

I'm surprised it didn't sound like a tin can full of bolts under you in the bay. One of the screws was bouncing around in there for a while until the stator finally met up with the flywheel. Dang!

Same thing happened to me last year except on mine it sheared the head off one of the bolts leaving me half a screw below the surface of the boss. It also sheared off the little aluminum flange that has the timing arrow on it. Phillip head screws.....wtf were they thinking?????

I use red loctite on all my bolts, nuts, screws.

Once I get the engine back up and running allen head bolts or an actually bolt will be used to hold the stator.
